About Appletrees Guest House

Keswick sits amid the northern fells of the Lake District, with Derwentwater a short stroll away and walking country rising all around it. Appletrees Guest House occupies a spot on The Heads, putting guests within easy reach of the lake, the surrounding hills, and the town itself without needing to drive in each day.

Rooms are en-suite and come with drinks-making facilities, and breakfast is included to set guests up before a day on the fells. A packed lunch can be arranged for those heading out walking, and there's a garden to relax in when the weather allows. Practical extras include free on-site parking, 24-hour reception, luggage storage and free WiFi, and pets are welcome to join the stay.

Beyond the guest house, the area offers cycling and walking routes straight from the door, along with golf, fishing and watersports nearby. Pubs, restaurants and other eateries are within easy reach for evenings out, making Appletrees a straightforward base for exploring both Keswick and the wider national park.

I came to England from the USA by myself to visit dear son at uni. We agreed to meet in Keswick and do some hiking for a couple of days. After a long journey (and some bit of travel anxiety) I approached Appletrees on foot and had the best surprise! A gorgeous stately guest house with my room facing a view that looked like a painting, Catherine and sweet doggy Polly greeting me and making me feel so welcome. Our rooms were fresh and comfortable (great to have my own kettle and some biscuits!), breakfast was delicious and plenty, Catherine and her daughter even packed us up lunches to take on the trail. In the evenings my son and I came back after dinner to relax in the beautiful lounge and play Scrabble & Rummikub with a bottle of wine or some tea. I had a bout with nerves again when it was time to leave and I couldn't figure out how to get to York for our next adventure. Catherine provided taxi info, and other friendly guests encouraged me. We made it to York! Thank you, Catherine and family, for the best stay we could have asked for. I now dream of returning to Appletrees and mention it to my husband now and then as the perfect get-away...

So the host - Catherine was very welcoming and accommodating and was happy to do my initial room requests. She provided me with a room with a nice view as per request and told me if I want the beds together I can push them, but there will be a gap due to bed design. Catherine also provided a lot of information about the area and even information outside of it and had lots of pamphlets with walks and various other activities. Room was very fresh, nice shower and easy to understand what's what. Clear instructions with everything. Mattress was fresh and looked new. Blanket I had some issues with because the padding had "gaps" but my girlfriend had no such issues. And even then such a minor thing. Ordering breakfast was confusing, there was a sheet and Catherine did explain how it all works but it all just looked very confusing and in the dining room I heard other guests mention the same thing. Of course in the end it all worked out well. The room was an absolute steal for the price it had, which was around 90£ per night. And Catherine only made it better, it shows that the place they have is a project full of passion and definitely they put their heart into it.
