The Duke's Head Hotel

Good city centre location. Rooms and bathrooms were clean and the requested bath mat was provided. Request to restock coffee/ tea was dealt with quickly. Bed was a bit firm for my liking. In the light of day the rooms appeared a bit shabby and in need of a good refurbish/repair. Never tried food as breakfast was an extra £12. The hotel has its own parking area but you have to pay £15 a night for the privilege of using it. However there is a large public car park outside the entrance at more reasonable £7 a night. Bar was expensive and the pub next door was better.

Spent the weekend here at Dukes and it was okay overall. The rooms were lovely but I think I hadn’t done my research thoroughly as we discovered that our room didn’t have an air conditioner. However there was a fan available for use. Though it was still quite hot so we’ve had to keep our windows open, which then meant that we could hear all the loud noises from outside. Another issue we’ve had was when we decided to ask for our room to be refreshed, only to come back later in the evening to find that our door was open and they that we left behind inside the room was gone. This was a huge safety and security issue. Fortunately nothing was stolen. We told the reception straight away and they apologised and said that they would look into it but nothing was done after. Which was a shame because weren’t happy about the whole situation, anyone could have been in the room. We would have wanted a little consolidation and reassurance that it won’t happen again. Noting also that there’s no security in place at the hotel and anyone could just walk in and out. Parking was a bit of an issue with it being first come first serve basis at a cost of £15 to park 24 hours. I cannot fault the service at the restaurant and the staff were attentive, though the food was not up to par. Overall, our stay was okay, it was unfortunate that we had some issues. I would probably give them the benefit of the doubt. 6/10

Location is good but parking in the town is not easy to find - therefore the £15 hotel charge for parking is difficult to avoid. Staff are welcoming and particular mention must be made of the young lady who served us in Turners Restaurant - most charming and attentive.. Breakfast offerings were plentiful with something to suit all tastes - but toaster setting no 2 results in burnt toast 😂 use 1.

Here for a business trip. Location perfectly situated in the town centre. Parking at the rear £15 for 24 hours. Has 2 EV charging points using the Roam app. Warm reception and welcome. Friendly staff and overall a positive experience. Very positive experience with the service In the restaurant Food was ok and there was a wide voice across two menus. I had calamari starter and. The burger with upgraded fries. Service was exceptional. Breakfast was perfect with fresh hot food self serve, proper quality sausages and fried egg rather than scrambled. Service was also friendly Nd professional. Rooms are clean and the bed was comfy. Shower and no bath. The only unfortunate part of my stay was being woken up by Johnsons Laundry Service collecting the linen at 5:45M. This involves the driver dragging 2mX1m plastic containers out the building, across the street ,then dragged into his truck. If you happen to be In the rooms above this area, it is impossible to remain sleeping or return to sleep. I'm sure the management are unaware of this, but it's worth asking not to be located at this side of the building if you can. Aside from that, a positive experience in a friendly and decent hotel. Business or local sightseeing.
