About Once Upon a Fell

Tucked between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales on a working family farm, Once Upon a Fell offers tranquil camping in spacious, private fields where the views are genuinely stunning. Hot showers, covered cooking areas and fire pits come as standard, while compost toilets keep things eco-friendly. Bell tents and cabins provide a more comfortable option if canvas isn't your thing.

The hosts are generous with local knowledge and often have fresh farm produce available, making this feel more personal than your average pitch-up-and-go site. It's open year-round and allows campfires, though dogs aren't permitted. With no WiFi, you're properly off-grid here—ideal for a peaceful break exploring two of England's finest national parks from a genuinely welcoming base.

Had a week stay in the sheep pen @onceuponafell. Couldn’t ask for much more. Beautiful surroundings, very peaceful and tranquil stay. The hut was full with everything we needed. The drinking water is filtered and fresh, plenty of wood around for fires, cooler box with fresh ice packs everyday to keep food cold. Lovely organic cleaning products along with hand wash body wash etc provided…Fresh milk cheese and eggs on site to buy which was a life saver. Plenty of things to do around the area. Easy to get to the lakes and the dales with lots of beautiful towns in-between. Pam couldn’t do enough for us and was happy to help anytime we needed her. We will definitely be returning and I can’t wait till we do. Thank you again for our perfect week away. 🌿❤️

This campsite was absolutely stunning! We stayed in a private field, and it felt like our own haven. The little covered kitchen with cooking hob and sink, the compost toilet and hot shower all to ourself was so much more luxurious than campsites with shared facilities. The fact we were allowed a bbq and fire pit (provided by them) made the evenings so lovely. There was even a hammock to relax in and picnic tables. We stayed as a couple but you could fit multiple groups in the field which we will definitely look to do in future. It’s so well placed with gorgeous walks and scenery literally out of the gate. And a short drive to lakes etc. Absolutely amazing gem of a find, recommend to everyone!

What a beautiful place, and we had it all to ourselves. We booked a variety of accommodation to fit our family group. It was great for the dogs that had a secure fenced off area. The farm felt apart of the experience and we loved the green ethos of the site. Walks on your doorstep with views to die for, everyone loved it! Pam is very welcoming and we felt right at home. I don't think I could go back to a big campsites after this. We will be back!

Fantastic! We have spend a long weekend with two boys and it was absolutely perfect! The camp site was clean, peaceful and quiet, super spacious, plenty of room for the kids to run around and play and go wild. The bell tent was just the right size and had very comfortable mattresses to sleep on, it was super comfortable! On the cooler nights we closed the "windows" and the tent remained nice and warm. The boys loved the hammock and the campfire and barbecue was a fantastic entertainment. Waking up to fresh air and misty hills was just gorgeous and in the warm evening we star gazed and saw a shooting star. The kitchen was perfect and the toilet/shower was as well. It was perfect for a wild weekend.
