About Puddlemire
Nestled in a peaceful Cumbrian valley near Kirkby Lonsdale, Puddlemire offers a proper back-to-basics escape with a few thoughtful extras. The site's 13 Hobby Wood pitches are scattered among trees, while six Beck-side spots come with private facilities—a real treat after a day exploring the Yorkshire Dales or Lake District fringes. Three pre-pitched Alder's Edge bell tents cater to those wanting canvas comfort without the faff of pitching.
Campfires are encouraged here, adding to the wild-camping feel, though families should note that dogs aren't allowed and there's no WiFi to distract from the woodland setting. Facilities cover the essentials—hot showers, drinking water, clean loos—but some visitors mention they can feel a touch tired in places. Still, for couples or families after a genuine digital detour in beautiful Cumbria, Puddlemire delivers quiet, wooded charm.

What visitors say
The campsite is in a beautiful location and the facilities were clean, which is why I’m giving 2 stars rather than 1. However, our stay was badly let down by poor management and inadequate facilities for the size of the site. For the entire main tent field, there were only 2 sinks with 1 shared tap for everything — washing up, hand washing after using the toilets, brushing teeth, etc. There was no hot water, and it simply wasn’t enough for the number of campers. The biggest issue, though, was noise and lack of enforcement of campsite rules. The owners allowed a large group (around 8 tents) who were effectively having a party all weekend — drinking heavily, blasting music, shouting and singing. We arrived around 5pm and the noise continued until after midnight. I messaged the host at 11pm and was told they would speak to the group the following day, although they said it was difficult when people deliberately ignored the rules. Unfortunately, the second night was exactly the same. By around 8pm they returned with an entire wheelbarrow full of beer, followed by more loud music and shouting until after midnight, plus the sound of people being sick through the night. In my view, the campsite should never have accepted such a large party-style booking, and once they had been informed of the problem, they should have been actively monitoring the situation the following evening. We returned to the campsite at 7pm on night two and did not see the owners come down once. To make matters worse, when we arrived back on the second evening, another tent had been set up on our pitch, and its occupants were smoking weed. Overall, while the setting is lovely and the facilities were clean, the lack of adequate washing facilities, poor site management, and complete absence of quiet-hours enforcement made this stay completely unacceptable.

Peaceful campsite in beautiful setting. Facilities were simple but very clean and met our needs. Really friendly and helpful owner. Pitches are on grass next to a stream and site is car free. Good value, easy access from motorway, close to lovely countryside and Kirkby Lonsdale.
