About The Shore

Shore Street runs along Kirkwall's harbour, and The Shore makes the most of that setting, putting guests within easy reach of the water and the town's own pace of life. It's a relaxed hotel rather than a grand one, with a bar, lounge and restaurant giving it the feel of a proper local gathering point as much as a place to stay.

Rooms are bright and come with en-suite bathrooms, and there are family rooms and accessible rooms among the options, plus drinks available in room. Free WiFi and 24 hour reception cover the practical side, and luggage storage is handy for anyone arriving or leaving by boat or plane, with Kirkwall Airport listed nearby. Breakfast is included, and the on-site restaurant and bar mean guests don't need to go far for a meal at either end of the day.

Beyond the front door, Orkney's mix of coast and countryside opens up: walking and cycling routes, fishing and watersports, a golf course, and further pubs, bars and restaurants all within reach. It's a straightforward base for exploring Kirkwall and the islands around it.

It's 11pm and currently I'm listening to other guests call out to each other in the hallway, then slamming their feet around, then someone tried my door handle, and now someone is thundering up the stairs, oh and that's the side dish to the conversation I can clearly hear in the room above me. Hands down the absolute worst hotel I have ever stayed at

Stayed for one night, researched hotels in the area and wasn't disappointed with this one. Staff were really friendly and professional. Hotel was very clean throughout including our room. We had a few drinks in the bar, we didn't eat in the restaurant. Later in the evening the bar did become busy but everyone was enjoying themselves, after retiring to our room we didn't hear any noise from the bar below. The breakfast was very good with good size portions. We would definitely stay again.

The world's smallest room, as you are an annex of the hotel next door you are forgotten about. Uncomfortable bed, can hear everything next door, paper thin walls so kept waking me up. One pillow only. Have no choice to stay here due to hotel shortage due to the festivals. Breakfast is good though.

Spotlessly clean and a beautiful restaurant, the chef even wrote out and gave a me his recipe for my meal. I have stayed here on many occasions. I love the rooms, they are warm comfortable and modern, hairdryers, dressing gowns, shower and hair shampoo is provided as well as tea, coffee, chocolate etc. The bar and waiting staff are excellent too. Don't hesitate in staying here xx
