About The Storehouse Restaurant with Rooms
The Storehouse occupies a converted stone building on Bridge Street Wynd, in the oldest part of Kirkwall and a short walk from St Magnus Cathedral, the harbour and the main shopping street. The conversion has been done with restraint, keeping the thick walls and proportions of the original while fitting out eight en-suite bedrooms to a standard that stands comparison with anywhere in the north of Scotland.
Rooms are graded from Classic upwards, with rates starting around £140 including breakfast in the quieter months and rising through the summer. Expect good beds, proper bathrooms and a calm, contemporary finish rather than tartan and antlers. The building is small enough that the atmosphere stays personal, and staff are used to guiding first-time visitors around the archipelago.
The restaurant is the other half of the proposition and a genuine destination in its own right, serving dinner in the evening with a menu built around Orkney beef, lamb and shellfish. The Times named it among the top Scottish island hotels in 2023. Being able to eat like this and then climb a flight of stairs to bed is a considerable advantage on a windy Orkney night, and it makes the Storehouse an easy recommendation for a special trip.

What guests say
Excellent and creative cooking, wine list and service in a really cool setting with open kitchen and great decor. The best scallops I ever had anywhere and nicely cooked skate in delicious sauce. Even the boiled potatoes were great, tasted freshly dug. My desert, berries sorbet and fruit gazpacho, was light and a great combo of flavours and textures.

Absolute gem of a hotel! This was about of a splurge but very worth it. The bed was so comfortable, the room is stocked with great teas and treats, and the shower is awesome. Would recommend this to anyone wanting a perfect stay on mainland Orkney. The breakfast is great, especially love the option to get a smoothie. We also had dinner there one night and the steak and Orkney butter were particular standouts.

I stayed for be night whilst away on work, my room was lovely and the building itself is beautiful, the quality of the rooms is top class and lovely Orkney shortbread provided in my room( this was the best tasting shortbread I’ve ever eaten). Bathroom was lovely and the shower had great pressure too. Great location close to the harbour and is a great central location. I had dinner in the restaurant and only disappointment was no Orkney fillet steak on the menu, so I had fish and chips and was very tasty👌🏻. Staff were very attentive throughout my stay and booked me a taxi for the morning. Great stay as always. See you again soon🙏🏻

Amazing decor, staff are always so kind and food is 10/10. I often capture weddings here in Orkney and highly recommend if you’re looking for a wedding venue in Orkney.
