About Discovery Inn - Leeds

Bishopgate Street puts Discovery Inn - Leeds right among the city's streets and attractions, within reach of Kirkstall Abbey as well as the usual bustle of the centre. It's a straightforward base for exploring Leeds on foot, with pubs, restaurants and entertainment all nearby, though there's no parking on site, so it suits those arriving by train or without a car.

The hotel has 93 rooms, including family options, and guests generally find them spacious with comfortable beds, making this one of the better-value stays in the area. That said, maintenance and heating can be inconsistent, so it's worth packing an extra layer just in case. Staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful, which goes some way to smoothing over the rough edges.

Facilities include a bar, breakfast service, free WiFi, a lift, a garden, luggage storage and laundry service, covering the practical needs of both short stays and longer visits. With restaurants and bars on the doorstep and the city centre within easy reach, it works well as a simple, no-frills place to sleep and eat before heading out to see Leeds.

Rooms are very spacious. Bed was comfy. The room was the right temperature. The service I received, I was happy with. The reception staff were efficient and pleasant too. I thought it rather greedy to pay for leaving your bags at reception whilst waiting for the room to be ready. You're a stone throw away from the station, food places, bars, the trinity center and more. Overall a very enjoyable stay was had.Great city.

The only positive about this hotel is its location. Unfortunately, everything else was disappointing. The room was not clean—the bathtub was dirty, the carpets looked filthy and questionable, and the room generally felt poorly maintained. The shower had almost no water pressure, making it difficult to shower properly. We were only provided with one toilet roll for two people staying two nights, which was inadequate. The building layout was also confusing, making it unnecessarily difficult to get to our room. While the bed sheets appeared clean, the room itself was very noisy, making it hard to get a good night’s sleep. Overall, this hotel relies on its convenient location, but the cleanliness, maintenance, and comfort fell well below expectations. I wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it unless significant improvements are made.

OK for the price. Clean rooms. Comfortable beds. If you want fresh air in your room you’ll get lots of noise from the trains due to current improvement works outside the station. Smiling staff. But two stars due to the lax attitude to safety. It’s basically two hotels adjoined by long corridors, lifts and steps. Not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties if you are above the 5th floor. All the fire doors were propped open. I pointed this broke the regulations to the receptionist, who just smiled and said yes. Breakfast basic but OK, they seem to have an often broken coffee machine.

The good: ideally located close to the train station. The room and bathroom were large. The bed was comfortable. The bad: Central heating radiators not working especially in the bathroom. 2 old electric radiators provided, one of which I had to use, but chord not long enough to reach bathroom. The shower tap (the bit you have to lift to use the shower) was unscrewed. I could not screw it back so I could not shower. Not sure I would have wanted to shower in a cold bathroom anyway. There was also a severe draft causing cold air to hit me in bed. It was strong enough to open the bedroom door and I had to wedge the suitcase against it to stop the door from opening. The carpet tiles in the staircase are in need of replacement.
