About Black Mountain Escapes

A cosy Carmarthenshire stay awaits at Black Mountain Escapes, a luxurious single cabin perched at the western edge of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park with fabulous views of the Black Mountain. This bespoke hideaway, converted from a traditional laundry room, blends original character – exposed beams, a period fireplace – with modern comforts including a hand-crafted kitchen, cute cabin bed and power shower. Outside, the veranda and private hot tub make the most of those spectacular landscapes.

Despite the wonderfully rural setting, you're remarkably well connected: easily accessed from the A40, about a mile from Llangadog station, and with a pub and shops within walking distance. Bigger Llandeilo and Llandovery sit around ten minutes' drive away. The location is a walkers' paradise, whether you're tackling national park trails, exploring Carreg Cennen Castle or strolling Aberglasney Gardens. Climbers and mountain bikers will find plenty nearby too, making this peaceful, adults-only retreat an ideal base for active escapes.

What an absolutely blissful and relaxing stay I have had spending two nights in Y Golchdy. What used to be an old laundry room now turned into a gorgeous cute and quirky little cottage/cabin was just such a pleasure to stay in! It’s clear a lot of love and hard work has gone into making Y Golchdy (which means ‘the Laundry’ in welsh) the most loveliest little place to stay, its just beautiful. The views surrounding Y Golchdy are just incredible and watching the sun come up was just so peaceful and absolutely stunning. At night if the sky is clear there’s a telescope outside for star gazing and looking at the moon or simply into the hills during the day. You can sit outside and have breakfast with a little patio heater and rocking chairs to relax in. There’s a jacuzzi hot tub which was lush that you can enjoy with a glass of prosecco looking out on to those amazing views. Inside Y Golchdy its so cosy and warm with wood burning log fire and a cosy little couch to snuggle up onto. A bed in the wall with a TV at the end to watch your favourite movies with popcorn and in my case more prosecco may I add!! The kitchen area has everything you need and everywhere you look there is so much that takes you back to the early 1900’s making it feel almost like you’ve stepped back in time. Aimed at couples for a romantic getaway or as a solo stay. This place really does have it all and the owners are really lovely too making you feel really welcome. I has such a lovely stay and would definitely recommend.

Incredible stay from start to finish. We booked Thursday–Saturday and ended up extending because we didn’t want to leave. The cabin is immaculate, cosy and finished to a really high standard – everything you need for a perfect break. The hot tub after hiking Pen y Fan and Cribyn was unreal. Ruth is amazing – so welcoming and thoughtful (even baked Caitlin a birthday cake which was such a lovely touch). Beautiful location, great pubs nearby, and the perfect peaceful escape. We’ll 100% be back – highly recommend if you’re thinking about booking. It doesn’t get much better than this!

Absolutely stunning cottage – I can't recommend it highly enough for either a quick escape or a longer holiday. I recently enjoyed a girls’ weekend here with my oldest friend from school, and we were both blown away by the charm of the place. The cottage itself is beautifully decorated with an array of antiques and unique collectables, all carefully chosen by Ruth, giving it a truly special and homely atmosphere. The location is brilliant, just a short stroll or quick drive into Llanadog, a picturesque village with a couple of lovely pubs. We dined at Y Castell and the food was absolutely delicious. The area is perfect for scenic walks, and after a day outdoors it was heavenly to relax by the gorgeous woodburning stove. The cottage also boasts a luxurious roll top bath inside and another one outside under cover – surrounded by candles, it was a magical way to unwind. Ruth was an absolute pleasure to deal with, incredibly helpful and genuinely lovely throughout our stay. I can’t wait to come back – this place is a true gem!

A really lovely little place. The decor has been really thoughtfully done and every little touch is lovely. Ruth, the owner is helpful and friendly and gives a warm welcome. The local pub Y Castell does great food and the pizzas at Dough Diddley's are fab. The view from the hot tub is exceptional. We will definitely be back.
