What diners say

Miriam Benito Viloria

We left the restaurant with rather a bittersweet feeling. Overall, dinner was fine, but by the end it felt a little overpriced for what we had. The main issue for us was with the wine. We ordered one bottle from the menu and, although the waiter suggested a different one, we chose to stick with our original decision. However, when we checked the bill, we realised that the suggested bottle had been added instead (£40 rather than the £32 bottle we had chosen). We hadn’t noticed during the meal as the bottle was kept in a cooler and, admittedly, I’m not great with wine names I don’t practically know. That said, we hadn’t asked for a recommendation, so it was disappointing to feel that our choice hadn’t been respected. As for the food, the pastel de nata was excellent — easily the highlight of the evening and the one thing that would genuinely bring us back. The bacalhau à Brás was good, and the rice with stone bass and mussels was also good, though not particularly memorable. The bife à Marrare was quite small; the sauce was flavourful, but better than the meat itself. The polenta chips and sausage croquetes were alright, but nothing special. Overall, not a bad experience, but for the price point we expected slightly better value and more attentive service. With a bit more care around these details, it could be a much stronger offering.

This place is perfect for anyone who wants an authentic taste of Portugal in London! 🍷🐟🇵🇹 The small plates are perfect for sharing (my personal favorite was the bacalhau à Brás), and the atmosphere is fun while still feeling relaxing. I specified my allergies on my reservation, and when I arrived, they’d prepared a special tailored menu! 10/10 would recommend.

What an experience. Food out of this world. Had live music on with João Menezes Music follow on Insta @joaomenezesmusic and staff was supper friendly. Will definitely return with family and friends. The month of June is the best month with their Santos Populares specials. Loved it. Thank you Bar Douro and the whole team!

I had an absolutely amazing experience at this restaurant! The food was fantastic and every single dish was on point, truly bringing back the authentic flavors of Portugal. We started with the alheiras and pataniscas de bacalhau, followed by a perfect bacalhau à Brás. To finish, the cinnamon sorbet was a lovely and unique touch. Beyond the food, the atmosphere is wonderful. The music is delicate and the decor is so traditional, featuring those famous, beautiful blue tiles. Chef Jose is clearly a master of his craft, and the entire staff was stupendous so welcoming, cooperative, and helpful with their suggestions. The prices are very decent for the quality you receive. Whether you are coming with family and friends, as a couple, or just want a beautiful, relaxing time, I highly recommend this place. It was a perfect experience from start to finish!

Diners like this restaurant's delicious and authentic Portuguese small plates, with many highlighting the bacalhau à Brás, garlic prawns, and pastel de nata. They also mention the relaxed atmosphere, often enhanced by traditional decor and music, and the friendly, attentive staff. Guests appreciate the good value, especially the tasting menu and lunch deals, and the excellent wine selection.
