About Eurotraveller Hotel - Express Elephant & Castle

Elephant & Castle's pubs, restaurants and entertainment venues are all within easy reach of Eurotraveller Hotel - Express Elephant & Castle, and the area's transport links make it a straightforward base for exploring central London by tube or bus. Amelia Street itself is a quiet residential spot, tucked just away from the busier main roads.

Rooms are simple and functional, with en-suite bathrooms, drinks available in the room and the option of family rooms for those travelling with children. Room service and luggage storage are on offer, and free WiFi runs throughout. Some rooms can run warm and there's no air conditioning, so it's worth bearing in mind during summer months.

Disappointing and overpriced – far below what the rating suggests After my stay, I can say quite clearly that I would rate this hotel 2 out of 5 stars overall. I fully understand that every guest has different expectations and their own personal standards when it comes to accommodation. That said, I genuinely struggle to understand how this hotel has managed to achieve such a positive overall rating. In my experience, it falls well short of what one would reasonably expect — especially considering the price. The first issue is the hotel itself, which feels dated, tired, and in need of serious modernisation. The most frustrating part of the stay, however, was the complete absence of air conditioning. In summer, this is not a minor inconvenience — it is a major comfort issue. The room became unbearably hot, with the heat lingering throughout the day and night to the point where relaxing, let alone sleeping comfortably, was difficult. Providing a simple fan as a substitute is, in my opinion, completely inadequate in this price range and frankly feels outdated. Unfortunately, the fan itself was barely effective and made little to no real difference. The room amenities did not improve the experience either. There was a fridge in the room, but calling it functional would be generous. It did not cool drinks properly at all, leaving everything lukewarm rather than cold. When I mentioned this to a staff member, I was told that “all of the fridges are like that.” If that is genuinely considered acceptable by the hotel, then that speaks volumes. The same can be said for the drinking water supplied from a separate tap — instead of being refreshing, it was unpleasantly warm. What makes all of this particularly disappointing is the price. I paid approximately €500 for three nights, and for that amount I expected a far better standard of comfort, maintenance, and overall room quality. I appreciate that London is not a cheap city and that location inevitably influences pricing. However, location alone cannot justify charging this kind of money for a room that, in terms of comfort and atmosphere, felt closer to a basic hostel or student accommodation than to a hotel commanding these rates. At that point, it stops feeling expensive and starts feeling unjustifiable. To be honest, the hotel was fortunate that I had neither the time nor the patience to move elsewhere once I had already checked in. Had I not been tired of searching, or had I spent a little more time comparing alternatives beforehand, I am quite certain I would not have ended up here in the first place. At least the experience has made one thing very clear: I will not be returning. For me to ever consider staying here again, the hotel would need to address some very basic but essential issues: proper air conditioning, a fridge that actually cools drinks, and rooms whose standard and comfort level bear at least some resemblance to the price being charged. Otherwise, the only fair alternative would be to lower the rates to match what is actually being offered. Final verdict In its current state, this hotel seems to rely heavily on its location while offering a room standard that does not come close to justifying the price. For me, it was a disappointing stay, poor value for money, and certainly not a place I would recommend. Marko Panten

Quiet location, easy to get to with good transport links. Rooms very clean, just a bit warm during the heatwave as there is no air con - but two fans were provided and the windows opened. Has luggage storage included. Stairway is retro decor but the rooms are modern, tidy and spacious.

Came to London for a show, chose this hotel because it’s a 7 minute walk from the venue. Friendly front desk, very clean rooms, and a central location. The hotel is a 10 minute walk to the Kennington station of the Northern Line, which helped me zip easily through London. Located in a quiet, residential area of Southwark, but still in the heart of all the action. Great for budget conscious solo travelers!

Latino Bar underneath. Loud music and vibrating walls all throughout the night. Staff couldn't do anything about the noise. Relocated us a different room, but the music was still audible. Would avoid if you're looking for a good night's sleep
