Hazlitt's occupies a row of Georgian houses on Frith Street in the middle of Soho, one of which was the last home of the essayist William Hazlitt, who died there in 1830. There is nothing outside to indicate that it is a hotel - no sign, no canopy, just a door and a bell - and being buzzed in is part of the appeal. Inside, the floors slope, the staircases creak and the rooms are furnished with antiques, four-posters and free-standing Victorian baths.
Bedrooms are named after people connected to Hazlitt and to the house, and they are individual to the point of being unrecognisable from one another. Some are small; the suites at the top are considerably more generous and have the best of the panelling and the carved beds. Modern comforts have been fitted quietly - air conditioning, good bathrooms, Wi-Fi - without stripping out the period character, which is a harder balance to strike than it sounds.
There is no restaurant and no lobby to speak of. Breakfast is brought to the room or served in the small ground-floor sitting room, and there is a library and an honesty bar. This is deliberate: the hotel expects you to eat in Soho, and Soho obliges. Hazlitt's is run by the same people as The Rookery in Clerkenwell and Batty Langley's in Spitalfields.
The location is central to the point of being unavoidable - Soho Square at one end of the street, Ronnie Scott's a few doors down, Chinatown and the theatres a short walk. It is a quiet building on a loud street, and it suits people who would rather stay somewhere with a history than somewhere with a gym.

We could not be happier with our decision to stay here for a few nights while visiting London. We happened to book our trip during London’s heat wave, so after long days of exploring the city, it was such a relief to return to the hotel’s incredible air conditioning! 🤣 The staff were so welcoming and accommodating from the moment we arrived. They kindly allowed us to leave our luggage on our first day while we waited for our room to be ready, giving us the opportunity to start exploring right away. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic. Having it delivered directly to our room was such a treat, and the coffee was amazing. We were especially surprised that the pastries arrived warm—they were delicious! It was truly one of the highlights of our stay. Thank you for the comfortable beds, the wonderful hospitality, and our lovely stay at your beautiful hotel. The location was perfect as well. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting London.

Hazlitt's is such a unique stay with a history. Before booking, be aware that there are no lifts so stairs is the only way to get to rooms on the upper levels. We only had bags, but I can imagine luggage being difficult. The staff is top tier, incredibly kind and your reservation starts with a tour of the hotel, including a reading area filled with books by author's that have stayed there. There are also lounges where you can make your own drink. We were escorted to our room that was rich in history and decor that matched the hotel's esthetic. My only concern is that the hotel being older had make shift changes to attempt the make things level, and the floors and stairs are not level. I wouldn't suggest the hotel for taller folks (6'0 and above) as we found ourselves crouching in the room and in the wash area. Overall, a great location with exceptional staff.

This hotel has become my home in London. The charm, the beauty, the history, the service, the warmth and the location all make it the perfect place to stay in London. But even beyond that, it is the people that keep me coming back. After years of warm welcomes and flawless service, Charles and Ray hold a special place in my heart. Rosealba, Cameron, Roberto, Mirin and the rest of the staff are outstanding as well. Most highly recommended!

An amazing hotel that gave cozy 18th century. Truly one of a kind.if you want a bit of history in the center of SOHO this is your spot. The staff was very kind and always going out of there way to help, great service. The hotel is very fancy so keep that in mind when staying, but truly I would stay there again in a heart beat.
