About Locke at Broken Wharf
Blackfriars Bridge is a short walk from Locke at Broken Wharf, putting the South Bank, the City and the Thames path within easy reach for an evening stroll or morning run. The surrounding streets are well stocked with pubs, restaurants and other places to eat, making this a practical base for exploring central London on foot.
The hotel occupies a converted warehouse building, and its rooms come with kitchenettes and laundry machines, useful for anyone staying more than a night or two. Some rooms look out over the river. Beyond the bedrooms there's a restaurant and bar on site, along with a gym and a spa with sauna, plus a cafe known for its coffee. Lift access, en-suite bathrooms and accessible rooms are all available, and pets are welcome.
Staff are generally friendly and helpful, though service has been inconsistent at times according to some stays. There's no parking at the property, so it suits guests arriving by train or tube rather than by car. Luggage storage is available for early arrivals or late departures.
What guests say
Pro: Location Cons: Everything else Do not be fooled by the positive feedback online, I seriously wonder if those guests stayed at the same property. For a certified 4-star hotel, which wasn't cheap at all, this place is completely broken. Small room, hasn't been cleaned nor the garbage taken out for entire stay. For the planet? Nope. They just don't care about tourists. Excellent customer service continues at breakfast. Service is slow, and the "selections" are rigidly restricted: you only get a sandwich or scrambled eggs (if you want poached eggs you need to pay), one juice (want water? pay), one coffee, and a pastry (but not all include). They mess up orders too. This hotel really lives up to its name: broken.

Stayed here two nights in June. Had high hopes, left disappointed. The only thing good about this place is the location. The room had no usable window, it faced directly onto an internal wall with no natural light and no way to open it. The listing mentioned possibly frosted glass; a wall is not the same thing. The in-room climate controls look functional but aren’t. AC is controlled centrally from reception, something nobody mentions at check-in or anywhere in the room. We spent eight hours adjusting settings before finding this out. The system also resets overnight, so we were woken by the heat more than once and had to go down to reception in person each time — there’s no in-room phone. The microwave in the kitchenette didn’t heat food. When I reported it, I was asked if I’d watched the hotel’s video guide. The video confirmed I’d been doing everything right. The microwave was just broken - the staff did not even want to come look at it. Other guests I spoke to at reception also had out of order appliances in their rooms. When I raised my unhappiness at checkout, rather than anyone engaging with my concerns, I was handed an email address and told to write in, which I did. That was almost a month ago. No response.

Room 305. TV didn't work, spoke to reception, they claimed to be fully booked and couldn't swap room. However on their website and booking.com there are rooms available for today. And from reading other reviews, this seems to be a common issue, I also overheard another customer say his TV didn't work. Air con keeps turning it's self off after 15 mins. I put up with this for an hour before speaking to reception. They have set it at their end... And it's now working as expected. They offered me a complimentary breakfast. But at £250 per night, this isn't the 4* experience I expect.

Honest review of Locke at Broken Wharf – Not quite the 4-star experience I really wanted to love this place. The location is excellent, right by the river with that classic London vibe. Unfortunately, that’s where the highlights end. This is marketed and rated as a 4-star hotel, which sets expectations sky-high… and then reality arrives. It feels much more like an apartment-hotel run by enthusiastic first-timers than a proper hotel. The room situation Daily cleaning appears to be optional. We returned to the same towels, zero toilet paper replenishment, and a bed that hadn’t been touched. It’s the kind of surprise that makes you whisper, “Ah… sustainability?” (though I suspect it’s more “staffing” than eco-warrior principles). The breakfast experience There’s no proper breakfast restaurant — just a small café downstairs with a very limited menu. You can have a pastry, coffee, and something like scrambled eggs… but bacon is an extra adventure you must pay for separately. Several items (avocado, ciabatta, etc.) ran out early, and the staff looked as surprised as we were. Watching them operate was like witnessing a live comedy of errors — charming in its chaos, but not ideal when you’re hungry and slightly jet-lagged. Plus, the staff really does not know how to cook, overcooked crambled eggs, overcooked poached egg, etc. Bonus sustainability feature The corridors and rooms are kept so dark (again, for the planet, apparently) that we actually requested a room change. Our first room came with the delightful bonus aroma of breakfast drifting up from the café below. Nothing says “good morning” like sleeping in last night’s scrambled egg scent. Bottom line If you’re looking for a true 4-star hotel with reliable service, daily cleaning, and a proper breakfast, this isn’t it. It’s more of a 2.5–3 star apartment-hotel with great location but inconsistent execution. For similar money (or less), you’ll have a smoother, better-fed stay at a Premier Inn or any other well-run 3-star option in London. Cute building, handy spot, but we won’t be back. Proceed with tempered expectations — or just go somewhere else.
