About The Ampersand Hotel

For travellers who want to spend their days in museums and their evenings within easy reach of a good bar, The Ampersand Hotel makes a sensible base. Set on Harrington Road in South Kensington, it sits close to the tube station and to the area's major attractions, which suits both first-time visitors keen to walk everywhere and business guests who need quick links across the city.

The 111 rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and complimentary snacks, and are generally quiet and comfortable, with some laid out more spaciously than others. Guests get free WiFi, room service and drinks in the room, plus practicalities such as laundry service, luggage storage and accessible rooms. There's a restaurant and bar on site, breakfast is served, and a small gym covers those wanting to keep up a routine while away.

Beyond the rooms, the hotel offers concierge and porter services, meeting rooms for business stays, and childcare for families who need a night off. Pets are welcome, and the garden gives a spot to sit outside. With restaurants, pubs and entertainment all nearby, and the tube on the doorstep, most of London is within simple reach.

I would not consider this to be a 5 star or even 4 star hotel based on the service or amenities (in most 4 or 5 star hotels, I expect my luggage to be taken up for me, a doorman, etc). The room was barely wider than my wingspan, though I can't fault the hotel for that as it was made every clear on the website and they even sent an email after my booking recommending I upgrade; it was just the smallest hotel room I've ever encountered, and for the price, I thought there would be something, anything worthwhile. Besides the person who checked me in, the rest of the staff wasn't particularly friendly or helpful, and I found the hotel very basic in terms of its offerings. The location was good, footsteps away from the train line and walking distance to the Victoria and Albert museum.

Look no further. Conveniently located just steps from South Kensington station with direct access to the Piccadilly Line, this intimate boutique hotel truly has it all. A standout feature, especially for those who take their hair styling seriously, is the BaByliss hairdryer, comparable to the professional hairdryers I use at home. The hotel offers beautiful décor, exceptionally comfortable beds and pillows, and a level of cleanliness that makes for a very pleasant stay. The staff is warm and attentive, adding to the overall experience. You are also surrounded by countless restaurants and cafés, and within easy walking distance of the Natural History Museum. One small note: at times you may hear footsteps from above, but it was minimal and did not disrupt our stay. We slept soundly and were never awakened by noise. One detail worth mentioning, especially based on what I saw on TikTok, is the mirror situation. There is a mirror in the room, tucked inside a closet door, but it doesn’t stay open and the lighting isn’t the best. That said, there are several full-length mirrors throughout the hallways just outside your room, which makes it easy to check your outfit before heading out. I recommend exploring the nearby dining options rather than ordering room service, as it comes from Apero next door, which is just average. For coffee and pastries, I highly recommend PAUL—a perfect spot to start your day.

We stayed at the Ampersand hotel in the fancy South Kensington neighborhood of London twice in the past couple of weeks and we are so.impressedvthat it will be our hotel for all future visits. The hotel is a small boutique hotel where the rooms are well appointed, thoughtfully furnished and generous. What makes the hotel great is their service and location. Their staff is warm, welcoming, and generous. We got upgraded to super rooms both times. The staff remembered us and greeted us every time we walked past. They even stored our luggage for 12 days while we travelled through Europe. And the location is perfect - right next to the South Kensington train station, heart of the city with easy walking to major museums, shops, restaurants and sights. We loved our time here and we will be back for sure.

Hotel is nice but some weird things happen We booked a twin room and they put us in a double. Each night they promised to turn it into a twin but they haven’t (we’re on night 3) No biggy but kinda weird they have said they would but haven’t Cleaners are great bit they also cleaned our room and we came back in and my bed was soaking wet so I asked if they could do something about that and they told me the “spray is wet” so now approx 8 hours later and I’ve got into bed and it’s still wet / sort of damp
