About The Clerk & Well Pub & Rooms

Clerkenwell Road runs straight through one of London's oldest quarters, close to Farringdon and the edge of the City, and it's here that The Clerk & Well Pub & Rooms occupies its spot above a working pub. With just six rooms, it has the feel of a small, personal stopover rather than a large hotel, though it comes with proper hotel extras including air conditioning, free WiFi, a lift, and free on-site parking, which is no small thing in this part of London.

Downstairs, the restaurant and bar do much of the heavy lifting, turning out generous fish and chips and a Sunday roast that regulars come back for, alongside breakfast each morning. Staff are attentive, and rooms are described as comfortable, though the overall atmosphere can feel a little impersonal rather than warm. There's also a garden, meeting rooms, concierge services, laundry and luggage storage, and the property can host weddings.

Beyond the front door, Clerkenwell's mix of pubs, restaurants and eateries makes it easy to fill an evening without travelling far, and Farringdon's transport links put the rest of London within easy reach. It suits guests who want a well-placed base with a good kitchen attached, rather than a grand hotel experience.

Super friendly staff, good food. One star off for the room. Booked on Expedia with advertised King Bed and separate bathtub and shower... Well, while the room is very nice, the bed is a smaller queen size and the shower is inside the bath and very much not separate! Why the false advertisement? It just disappoints unnecessarily by setting wrong expectations for an otherwise nice place...

Great dinner and drinks! We tried several things, including fish and chips, and it was all great. Staff was friendly and the place was clean. We didn't stay at the hotel, so can't comment on that.

Great location - but that’s about it. Got here 7pm Saturday for a drink and a snack - weird bass music thrumping which made it hard to chat, a couple of little gnats flying round our table. Ordered the bar snacks of croquettes and whipped feta dip. Left 80% of the dip as really unpleasant - croquettes probably a 5/10. Staff very friendly. So many other nicer places to go within a 2 min walk - not really sure what clientele this place is aimed at tbh

Popped in to watch the grand national after advertisement on website. Completely empty pub, soulless, interesting decor to say the least. We asked for the volume for the race and were treated with derision - “we don’t do volume” - but subsequently a different punter enquired and the volume magically appeared. Wouldn’t recommend wasting time and/or money here. One star is generous.
