About The Melville Hotel Kings Cross
The Melville Hotel Kings Cross occupies a row of townhouses set around Argyle Square, with 37 rooms spread across the building. It's a straightforward city hotel rather than a grand property, but its position close to King's Cross and St Pancras stations makes it an easy base for getting around London or heading further afield by rail.
Rooms come with clean linen and towels as standard, though maintenance can be inconsistent from room to room, so it's worth setting expectations accordingly. On site there's a restaurant, bar and snack bar, along with free WiFi, a gym, spa and sauna, an indoor swimming pool, and a garden for quieter moments. The hotel also has meeting rooms, concierge services, childcare, and a licence for weddings, plus free on-site parking and luggage storage for those arriving with cases in tow.
Beyond the front door, the surrounding streets offer plenty of pubs, restaurants and other eateries, with entertainment options also close by. Service has been described as patchy at times, but for travellers who prioritise location and value over polish, the Melville's proximity to the stations and its range of facilities make it a practical choice.

What guests say
Do not stay here. We were charged for a room that was completely unacceptable — it was dirty, with curtains hanging off the rails. When we opened the curtains to the outside area, it was covered in cigarette butts, which made the whole experience even worse. We raised the issue immediately and requested a refund. The hotel agreed to refund us, but after that, we were given the runaround. Despite repeated follow-ups, we have still not received the £345 owed to us. Communication has now completely stopped — they are no longer responding at all. Very disappointing experience and extremely poor service. I would strongly advise avoiding this place.

The hotel was under renovation during our stay. This is something I was not told when booking. If it had began after I had booked I would have appreciated a heads up before coming. I was disappointed that there was not a communal area to use as it had appeared on the photos. The bedroom was fine. It was dusty but not dirty. The lay out was odd, there was 3 ways to enter/exit our room, this did not make me feel 100% safe. This included a patio that the room next to us also had access to. The bathroom was a weird pod in the corner of the room, and the lock was on the outside of it. We also had a TV that didn't work. There was no toiletries provided, normally this wouldn't be a problem but we did not bring any with us.

Entrance hall very nice. Sadly downhill from there. Our room on the 3rd floor, reached by a small dark hallway, where you couldn't see to use the coded door as the ceiling lights didn't work. Main room, half the ceiling lights didn't work. Heating didn't come on till 7pm. Window pane cracked. Wooden stick wedged in to windowframe. Shutter slats missing. No spoons for beverage making. Walls dusty. Ensuite only one ceiling light working. Electric towel rail not working. No floor mat. No plug in sink. Water very slow to drain in sink. Tap moved when you turn it on. Shower door and glass came right off its runner. For £155 it is NOT worth it. Fix these issues and it would be a nicer room. Location was ideal for our evening out. Would NOT recommend.

Location excellent as its 2mins walk from Kings Cross, but the (cellar) room horrible. Walls bulge with cracks, wall paper torn, shower/toilet room had rust. The website's reception rooms are up to date. Do NOT trust the room photos. Suitable only for a single person stay and if you're used to camping, YMCA comfort.
