About Tophams Hotel

Tophams Hotel suits visitors who want to be within easy reach of Victoria Station and the main London sights without paying West End prices, whether that's a weekend break, a work trip, or a stopover before catching a train or coach. The 48 rooms are generally well soundproofed, which helps given the busy central location, though some are on the small side and hot water hasn't always been consistent, so it's worth setting expectations accordingly.

The hotel has its own restaurant and bar, along with breakfast service, free WiFi and air conditioning throughout. There's also a garden, concierge services, luggage storage and free on-site parking, plus airport transfer options for anyone travelling further afield. The property doubles as a wedding venue too, and drinks can be brought to your room if you'd rather not head down to the bar.

Staff are consistently described as helpful and friendly, which counts for a lot in a hotel this central. Ebury Street itself has plenty of pubs, restaurants and eateries nearby, and Victoria's transport links put the rest of London within easy striking distance.

We got in from abroad well ahead of check in and wanted to drop our bags; we were offered to check in since room was ready and without extra charges. This was very nice and appreciated after a long flight They will also lock up your luggage on departure day post checkout in a secure storage requiring a tag to recover. Staff is always welcoming and helpful. Soundproofing of the rooms is really good and the street is fairly quiet for good sleep. TV channels selection is quite decent. Room size is very reasonable with a decent amount of storage. Wifi is fine and easy to connect. They bake cookies in the afternoon for guests and they are quite good. Shower is a little small but pressure and temperature are good. Bed is on the very soft side but was comfortable. Mini fridge is big enough to be useful. Location is great for bus stops and train station. We really enjoyed our stay there and found the value paid for the hotel and location to be excellent

It wasn’t a bad stay, but it wasn’t great either. Things we liked: The location is great, very close to Victoria station, lots to do nearby, and walking distance to a lot of things. The staff were all very friendly and happy to help with anything we needed. Things we didn’t love: We stayed for 6 nights, and our room was so small it was really hard to be comfortable. We couldn’t have our suitcases fully open in the room and had to crawl over them to get to either side of the bed or to the bathroom. The bed was comfortable, but again, quite small for two adults. There was a large hole in the frame of our bathroom window, so occasionally bugs would get in which was annoying. The bathroom was fine, but the shower temperature was wonky. It would be fine and then all of a sudden shoot out scalding water. The major issue for us, though, was the elevator issue. When we checked in we were informed the elevator was out of service and being repaired - which normally wouldn’t be a huge deal since we’re young and mobile - but then they put us on the fourth floor in the furthest corner of the building. The staircases are set up so after you go up a flight, you then have to cross the entire next floor to get to the next flight - so it was quite the adventure trying to get to the room every time. A few of the employees were kind enough to haul my 50 pound checked bag up and down the fun house-style stairs for us, but my husband had to carry all of our smaller luggage and it was a struggle navigating it all as the hallways are quite narrow. They sent me a pre-check-in email with lots of info - I would suggest including the info about no elevator in that for guests so they can be prepared! For the money spent, I would probably book elsewhere next time. The main areas of the hotel are charming, so hopefully they can maintain the rest of it and get it back up to standards - it has potential.

A lovely one-night stay at The Tophams Hotel. The location is excellent, especially if you’re travelling via Victoria Station, which is around a 10-minute walk away. We also walked to and from the theatre, about 40 minutes, and the route took us past Buckingham Palace, which was a lovely bonus. Check-in was easy and straightforward. We arrived early and were able to safely and securely store our luggage until our room was ready. We stayed in a Deluxe Twin Room, which was set over two floors. The upstairs room had two single beds and a seating area, while the lower level included a double bed, tea and coffee facilities (including a fridge), and a bathroom with a separate bath and shower, along with a selection of toiletries. There were televisions on both floors, plus an iron and ironing board and a hairdryer. The room was comfortable overall, although it did feel a little tired in places, with some scuff marks on the walls and areas where the paint had worn away on the handrail. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.

The building is gorgeous, the staff are friendly, the bed was extremely comfortable, the shower unusually good, and of course the location is superb. Still, this felt more like a three-star experience than a four-star one. Old buildings in London are notoriously difficult to maintain, but a toilet cistern that never stops running (or making noise) isn’t ideal—though, fortunately, it wasn’t quite loud enough to disturb our sleep if the door was tightly closed. The breakfast was very disappointing: no hot options—not even a rasher of bacon or a scrambled egg—without ordering from the menu and paying extra; and the the cheeses, meats and breads left much to be desired. The temperature in the room was also very hard to regulate; with the window locked shut, fresh air wasn’t an option. As somebody who struggles with sleep for health reasons, that was a bit of a disappointment. Overall, a decent enough experience—and very handy for a night at the Apollo Theatre. But I’m not sure I’d stay again if I could find a comparable price at another four-star hotel in the area.
