About The Walhampton Arms

The Walhampton Arms suits anyone who wants a proper pub base for exploring the New Forest, the Solent coast and Beaulieu, rather than a formal hotel stay. It sits on Walhampton Hill in Lymington, with parking available, making it an easy stopover for walkers, cyclists or drivers touring the area rather than a destination in itself.

Rooms are en-suite and well kept, with free WiFi, drinks available in the room and 24 hour reception for flexible arrivals. Downstairs there's a restaurant and bar serving hearty breakfasts and pub meals, with a good range of vegetarian and vegan options, though some find the food prices on the higher side. Staff are consistently friendly and welcoming, and pets are allowed for those travelling with dogs.

The setting gives easy access to golf, fishing and watersports nearby, along with cycling and walking routes through the surrounding countryside. There's also no shortage of pubs, restaurants and entertainment close by for evenings out, making it a practical choice for a New Forest break built around days outdoors.

We've driven past the Walhampton Arms many times, and with the sun out today, we decided to stop for a drink and some food. It was still quite early, around 6pm, so the place was fairly quiet. We were greeted by a surly young man who seemed fed up and as though he didn't want to be there. He gave us menus, and when we said we'd like to sit outside, he told us to order at the bar when we were ready. I went to the bar to order drinks while we chose our meals and was served by the same person, whose attitude had not improved behind the bar. Once we'd decided, I went back in to order food. Again, there was no smile, no warmth, and only the most perfunctory greeting. Throughout the transaction, he gave the impression that he didn't want to be there and had poor interpersonal skills. He later brought our food with the same attitude, collected some empty glasses, and threw the remnants of one glass up the wall of the archway as he walked past. The food itself was very good, and the portions were generous. No complaints there. However, we weren't offered any sauces or vinegar; cutlery and napkins were simply dropped on the table. I didn't catch the server's name, but I overheard him being introduced to another customer as the manager. I sincerely hope this was either a joke or that he was simply having an off day, because his attitude was not what you would expect from someone managing a hospitality venue where customer service matters.

10/10 We stayed here for one night and we couldn’t fault anything. Great location on the doorstep of the New Forest but also close to Lymington. Fantastic value for money, delicious breakfast included. The room even had some homemade shortbread waiting for us when we arrived! Friendly staff and the room was also spotless (the shower was gleaming) and was warm despite the cold weather. Would recommend to people looking for a stay in the new forest.

We visited for a carvery Sunday lunch today. This was our first visit to the Walhampton Arms and it won’t be our last. The venue is lovely, with lots of old historic local photos adorning the walls. All of the staff we encountered were pleasant, friendly and efficient. The carvery food was hot, plentiful and good value. We would definitely recommend it.

Stopped in for a pub-meal and wasn't disappointed - very tasty and reasonable portions for a very reasonable price. Great service - easily handed dietary requirements. Was very quiet when we visited - to be expected on a Tuesday evening - but a lovely atmosphere with the wood-burner going, the various quirky antique decor and the whole place (tastefully) decorated with fairylights.
