About Stock Exchange Hotel
The Manchester Stock Exchange was built between 1904 and 1906, at the point when the city's cotton trade was at its most confident, and the Grade II listed building on Norfolk Street was designed to show it: a domed trading hall, marble columns, and the names of Lancashire towns carved around the walls. It was converted into a hotel in 2019 and the conversion left the grandest spaces intact, so the original trading floor now works as the restaurant rather than being partitioned into bedrooms.
There are around 40 rooms and suites, which makes it genuinely small for a five-star city hotel, and the scale shows in the service. Rooms are finished in dark timber and brass with heavy fabrics and large bathrooms, and the best of them keep the original arched windows looking out over Norfolk Street and towards King Street. The penthouse occupies the top of the building under the dome. Air conditioning, good beds and proper soundproofing are standard, which matters on this side of the centre.
Tender, the ground-floor restaurant, is run by Niall Keating, who holds two Michelin stars elsewhere, and works over open fire; Tender Bar and the smaller Sterling Bar handle drinks and afternoon tea. The Bank is a private dining room for up to fourteen. The location is as central as Manchester gets — the Arndale, Deansgate, Spinningfields and the Royal Exchange are all within a five-minute walk, and Piccadilly station is about fifteen minutes on foot. The hotel has appeared in The Times' list of the top 100 places to stay in the UK.
