Guys Who Dine

With so many incredible spots in Manchester, Mana proves why it stands in a league of its own. Chef Simon Martin and his team have created something truly special in this beautiful, airy space with its stunning open kitchen. We went for the Complete Tasting Menu and were blown away from start to finish. 🥂 The food, service, and atmosphere were absolute top-notch.

This is a very difficult place to review. On the one hand, the food was a very good fine dining standard and it deserves its Michelin star. On the other hand, it was one of most awkward and strange dining experiences I've ever had, with the head chef openly berating and swearing at the staff. It's the hospitality industry and this place.. was not hospitable. It was extremely awkward watching people at work being so intimidated by their boss. It was difficult to know what to do - it felt like we had paid to be entertained by the spectacle of staff being belittled by their boss. Do we intervene and ask if people are OK? Because they didn't look OK to us, from our table a few metres away. There were also several sub-par bits of service - the plate was served to the wrong diner twice (meat course served to vegetarian and had to swap plates), a glass was dropped and smashed onto the floor, we were charged twice for some drinks and had to correct the bill. I thought it was also quite expensive in comparison to other restaurants of a similar quality. As I said, the food was very good and maybe the atmosphere is better on other nights, but seeing people being sworn several times in an open kitchen is not what you expect at a restaurant in 2026. It was an uncomfortable evening.

What a wonderful experience. Right from the moment you step through the door you know you are in for something special. But its in no way pretentious, you are made to feel welcome and looked after right from the first minute to the last. We went for the full 13 or 14 (who knows) course menu with select wine accompaniment. What a special experience it turned out to be. Everything was perfect, the chefs (Including Simon Martin) or servers explained every dish (and wines) to us which was fantastic as it helped you understand and truly appreciate the work that goes into each mouthful. The tastes were out of this world and for someone who gets hardly no exposure to this level of cookery we were blown away by the whole experience. The 2.5 hours were very special indeed and unfortunately flew by. Thank you Mana for an unforgettable night.

Myself and my partner went along to Mana restaurant to celebrate his birthday. I can’t believe the experience and the food we received. The staff were so incredible, lovely and so welcoming. The chefs were just insane and the food they served was something we have never experienced before. Mana you really made our night so special and we would highly recommend to anyone! Thank you again!

Diners like this restaurant's exceptional and creative tasting menus, featuring dishes like scallops with chawanmushi and aged milk bread, with many highlighting the excellent wine pairings. They also mention the relaxed atmosphere, with tables angled towards the open kitchen, allowing guests to watch the chefs at work. Guests appreciate the knowledgeable and friendly staff, who often introduce the dishes and provide attentive service.
