About Barn Farm Campsite
Barn Farm Camping occupies a working farm at Birchover, on the edge of Stanton Moor, roughly six miles north of Matlock Bath and within easy reach of both Matlock and Bakewell. The site sits at the meeting point of several well-known footpaths, with the moor's heather, gritstone outcrops and prehistoric stone circles rising directly behind the farm, making it a popular base for walkers as much as for anyone simply looking for a quiet field to pitch in.
Pitches are spread across several grass fields of varying size and shelter, taking tents, touring caravans and motorhomes on both electric and non-electric plots, with a large overflow field available during busier periods. Facilities are kept clean and well-maintained, with showers delivering continuous hot water, and the on-site shop is well-stocked for essentials. The farm's resident alpacas and peacocks add character, and staff are consistently praised for being friendly and welcoming. An on-site bar and simple catering run during the main season, with live music and charity weekends adding a sociable edge that some quieter local alternatives lack.
Dogs are welcome throughout most of the site, and the network of paths across Stanton Moor and down towards the Derwent Valley gives immediate walking straight from the tent flap. The combination of stone circles, gritstone edges and wide moorland views makes Barn Farm a strong choice for a proper Peak District camping experience.

What visitors say
We stayed here Uber the 2nd May bank holiday weekend and it was an absolute blast. There was 26 of us camping in total, adults and children. The kids ran around all weekend and made friends with the other campers. There was never any sense of danger that we couldn’t always see them, the site is really family friendly. The adults were able to crack-on with enjoying the sun, and the temporary bar that had been set up for the village fete which was on there that weekend. Loads of great stores, food and drink vendors, and activities for the children. There’s a cute little shop for your essentials, the bins are emptied regularly. The toilets are top-notch, really clean and spacious, although my only gripe for the whole trip was that there were no toilets in field 2. We will definitely be visiting again.

Great campsite. Reasonable rates. Good clean facilities. Adult showers with plenty of continuous hot water . Well stocked shop. Very friendly staff. Alpacas and peacocks. Great location for walking. 2 decent pubs within walking distance.

It was excellent apart from some other families there that didn't understand what quiet time meant and a warden who seemed to accept it as "you're going to get that". The many groups of DofE kids that were there were a credit to their schools, no noise after hours

Came here as a part of my silver DofE practise for my second night. It was genuinely wonderful. They had clean, free, working, hot showers and clean toilets (with mirrors!) which I find an absolute bliss to have after hiking for hours. It’s a picturesque area and the facilities were really close to my tent, just a couple minutes walk. Also first time ever seeing peacocks up close 🦚 TLDR: Lovely!
