About Burts Hotel

Burts Hotel occupies an eighteenth century building on Melrose's Market Square, in the heart of the town and a short walk from the abbey and the start of the Eildon Hills path. It has been owned and run by the Henderson family for more than fifty years, giving it a settled, personally managed feel unusual in a hotel of its size.

The twenty en-suite bedrooms are split between doubles, twins and singles, individually furnished rather than uniform, and several look out over the square itself. The restaurant has held AA Rosettes for its cooking every year since 1995, drawing on Borders game, lamb and Tweed salmon, and there is a separate bistro-style bar menu for a more relaxed meal.

Its position right on Market Square makes Burts a natural choice for anyone without a car, with shops, the abbey and restaurants all within a few minutes' walk. The hotel also welcomes dogs, with beds and bowls provided on request, making it a popular stop for walkers tackling St Cuthbert's Way.

This is the 4th time we have been for a meal here. The service is great with smiley staff that want to help. The owners greet you with a smile and want to make sure you have a good experience. Then there is the food.... Everything is really well cooked and the menu is really interesting. Our meals have been delicious and to be honest it's difficult to pick what to eat. Eating out is expensive so if you are going to do it, go somewhere where you get good value like Burts.

First Class - My partner and I stayed for two nights that included a family dinner for 13 in the private dining room. The staff were super friendly and attentive and the food from the restaurant menu was first class, as was the house claret! Could not have been happier with our choice of venue: highly recommended.

Burt’s Hotel Restaurant came highly recommended and it didn’t let us down. Fantastic food, great ingredients cooked very well with excellent presentation. The menu caters extremely well for gluten free diets (especially the dessert menu). Service friendly and attentive. I would certainly recommend to others staying or visiting Melrose.
