Warm welcome and cosy atmosphere, clean and well kept restaurant, was very busy and waited around one hour for order but reassuring food is made to order and not bulk prepared and left on hot plates waiting to be served. Party had burger, scampi and fish and all dishes were tasty. Good selection of drinks and reasonably priced. Previous reviews highlight and complain about inexperienced young staff, what was your first job? Hats off to the owners for giving them a start in life and we didn't have any issues whatsoever, will definitely revisit when back in Moffat.

We came across this gem of a place whilst passing through Moffat for the night. The service was excellent, all members of staff were so friendly and professional. From the minute i stepped through the door to make a booking, it was so welcoming and had a really nice aura. I just knew I was going to love it. It was spotlessly clean and a lovely environment to be in. The food and drinks were wonderful, we really enjoyed our visit and would not hesitate to recommend. Its amazingly dog friendly and our bulldog got a lovely fuss from the staff there. Thank you so much, you all do a great job. Ronnie the bulldog enjoyed his kiss and cuddles. We went all over South West Scotland for 10 days and it was absolutely beautiful but The Black Bull stood out from the rest, its absolutely lovely.

A good pub serving numerous keg beers and, I'm pleased to say, a couple of cask ales - The staff are excellent - However, the food I ordered was disappointing! Mixed meat pie with mash and veg: the mash and veg were fine but the pie was totally dry i.e. no gravy in the pie and the extra gravy I ordered didn't fix it......Therefore, I'd return here for a pint but would not dine here. This review and experience is 100% accurate and genuine.

We went into the bar for so some food, ordered crispy chicken burgers each and they came out with fries in a wee basket and some side salad. Well the burgers were like cardboard very very dry and they never supplied sauces or mayo on the table so we asked and they brought a little out for us but it never helped moisten the burgers, we asked for the bill and the young waitresses said ok but never came back after 20 minutes we went down and paid. I would not recommend this place for food and service poor
