Bracelands Campsite

Large Forest of Dean woodland site four miles from Monmouth
About Bracelands Campsite
Bracelands sprawls across sun-dappled glades in mature oak and beech woodland near Christchurch, offering more than 250 pitches just four miles east of Monmouth. It's one of the largest sites in the Forest of Dean, and that scale brings real advantages: pitches back directly onto forest trails linking into the area's renowned cycling and walking network, while the River Wye and dramatic Symonds Yat Rock are close enough for gorge walks, canoeing and some of the valley's finest viewpoints. A handful of camping pods suit those travelling without tents.
Facilities are straightforward rather than luxurious—modern shower blocks, dishwashing areas and a small shop for essentials—but the setting more than compensates. The open layout works well for families and larger groups, and dogs are welcome across most of the site. Popularity with cyclists and canoeists means summer weekends fill quickly, so book ahead for peak weeks, though even at capacity the sheer number of pitches prevents it feeling as cramped as smaller neighbours.

What visitors say
Good points , nice clean camp site . Staff pleasant and courteous., small shop on site . Good for walking and cycling. Bad points We had 3 e bikes stolen , two at the beginning of the holiday, and my son joined us and his was stolen on the last night of staying . Please be aware that there are two small gated entrances in the bottom field . These lead onto the forest track and then onto the main road out of the site. There is no CCTV whatsoever . . Last but not least it’s a free for all for pitching in the bottom field opposite the toilet block . There seems to be no staff directing and showy campers where to park . Dogs not on leads and roaming round the units .

Busy over the weekend but midweek days were lovely. Took the grey route down to the river - be warned it's very steep and there are no easy routes up from the river. 20k steps to and from the Saracens head! Bathrooms were kept clean. And the great range of icecreams were most welcome.

This is a great place to pitch-up. Ample facilities on site for every level of camper. Great little on site shop and pizza van on a Saturday which accommodate for dietary needs. What makes this site really nice is the staff particularly Keith and Ann who offered lots of support and tips for things to see and do. We have already booked to come back.

Great campsite on the edge of the woods. Good points - dogs & kids loved playing in the woods, little shop was great, pizza van came Saturday night & there were was adequate washing up facilities. Staff were also very friendly & chatty. Not so good - difficult to get a pitch on the flat, toilet & shower block was a bit dated & often needed cleaning. It was Bank Holiday weekend & very busy so appreciate this was difficult to manage. We would definitely go back 👍
