About Star Hotel
The Star Hotel has traded on New Wynd since 1748, making it one of the oldest coaching inns still taking guests in Scotland. Fifteen bedrooms, split between economy, superior and family rooms, sit above a traditional Scottish bar that has poured drinks for the town for well over two centuries.
The hotel is five minutes' walk from Montrose railway station and the High Street, and close to the historic Montrose Golf Links, making it a convenient, budget-friendly base for both rail travellers and golfing visitors. A full breakfast is included, though the Star does not serve evening meals, leaving guests to explore the town's other restaurants and pubs after dark.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome in bedrooms and the bar, with water bowls provided, and the hotel's function room hosts events for up to 140 guests. Its long history and central position give it a genuine sense of place that newer hotels in the town cannot match.

Myself and my husband spent the night at the star hotel and besides a small bit on confusion on where to enter the building, but that was mainly our fault of missing a sign. It was a nice and quiet room. The room was better than expected and made for a nice night to sleep off some jet lag. Atmosphere was friendly and had some nice conversations with one of the staff members. Over all, would stay again!

Overall not a terrible experience but a few issues that led to the middle of the road score. Service was really good and welcoming and we were shown everything we needed. Rooms were perhaps not the most spotless ever but were clean and tidy enough. Bathroom was clean although the fans could use a dusting. The building itself offers a sizable bar at the bottom of the building which offers specials such as karaoke on a Sunday which if your interested in that sort of thing is a really good offering. However, it does cause a great deal of noise with guests trailing up and down through the night not being particularly conscious of the noise they are making with many doors slammed outside our room, not a fault with the hotel or staff just the nature of the offering downstairs. A fair price for the room but just be warned if your a light or nervy sleeper on a night like this you may struggle for sleep. Thanks.

Spent the night here with my husband and friend, 2 double rooms were booked and on arrival myself/husband had been upgraded to what I can only describe as an apartment, modern and very clean, bed was so comfortable and when you thought it couldn’t get any better breakfast next morning was outstanding with good quality products used! Only downside was the noise from the pub downstairs but once windows were closed you couldn’t hear anything. Will definitely stay here again.

Had many a good night in the star hotel when I was staying there while working in Montrose. Nice pub for a couple a pints after work. Rooms are ok and are always clean but TV is very small. Staff are friendly and always help full so there is definitely 5 stars for the star staff.
