Setthorns Campsite

This is a lovely campsite surrounded by trees. The local area is fantastic with plenty of activities and excellent cycle paths. We came prepared with our own camping toilet and shower, as the website frequently reminds guests to bring a toilet. However, we were surprised to learn the day after we arrived that pouring any water onto the forest floor is strictly banned. While I now understand the environmental reasons behind this rule, it makes camping for more than one night very difficult. The website really needs to highlight this water policy as clearly as it does the toilet requirement.

This is the first time my wife and I have been here and would 100 % recommend. So peaceful and absolutely pitch black at night. Lots of Horses Deer and Cows wandering about near the site but didn't get any on the actual site. There are no facilities-just water and a reliable electric supply. Drive to it was on good roads so has easy access even with a 8ft wide twin axle caravan. Plenty of water and bins close to each pitch and the pitches are well spaced out. I would say that some of the pitches are relatively small but chose a XL pitch which still wasn't that big compared to most other sites we've been to in the past but was enough and had a wooden bench on the pitch. Lots of Squirrels and Birds visited the pitch as well as rabbits etc. Phone signal was a bit patchy on EE network and voice calls was a bit of a trial but strangely could stream Netflix etc via my phones hot-spot. A weak 5g signal was fine on my phone but my wife only has a older 4G phone which struggled for voice and data connection. Wardens friendly but did feel a bit caravan clubby with all the rules but then I suppose you need them as some campers do what they want without thinking of the area your in and your neighbors. Would definitely come back again and when I do - I hope to have better weather as it was a wet week but it is England so what do you expect. If you bring a dog make sure you bring some tick removal tweezers as it is the Forest and we've had to pull loads off our dogs coat.

Great campsite with lots of pitches, all under trees in the woods, with walking from site to Sway and forest areas. No toilet or shower facilities, EHU available and dog friendly. All pitches are well spaced apart with trees between. Friendly staff. Not sure the XL pitches and Select pitches are that much different, both have picnic benches. The XL area is quieter, but some standard pitches seem just as large. Lots of one way site roads, can be dusty so advise not pitching on a one way where everyone has to pass by to get to the other roads. Recommended for quiet secluded stays in the forest shade.

I first camped at Setthorns over 20 years ago, and was delighted to find it hasn’t changed at all, apart from bigger trees ! I stayed for 12 nights and had a fabulous stay. Beautiful herd of Deer, both in the evenings and also during the day, just grazing by me tent, wonderful ! My stay was made more enjoyable by the team of staff, special mention to Stuart , who brightens everyone’s day. 🤣👌🏼🤣 Thanks for a great time.
