Photo: Forest Lodge Hotel

Lyndhurst sits at the heart of the New Forest, where ancient woodland meets open heath and wild ponies graze freely across thousands of acres. Forest Lodge occupies a quiet corner of this landscape, set back from the main road with its own parking and a private pathway. The lodge stands alone on the owner's grounds—hidden from view of the house itself—and opens directly onto forest trails perfect for walking and cycling.

Inside, everything is on one level: a living room with a sofa bed, dining room, and kitchen equipped for proper cooking, plus a bedroom with a double bed (4ft 6in) and shower room. An outbuilding contains a freezer. The enclosed garden includes a terrace, sitting area, and grassed section with furniture and a barbecue. You get the essentials—heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi—plus a welcome pack and extras for your dog if you bring one. One car can park on site; unloading happens at a bridge 25 yards away.

This works well for people exploring the New Forest on foot or bike, or for riders: stabling and grazing can be arranged beforehand for up to two horses. Lyndhurst has shops, pubs and tea rooms within five minutes. The market towns of Ringwood and Fordingbridge are four miles away. No smoking inside. Note that there is a slope up to the lodge and an unfenced stream and pond in the grounds, 50 yards off.

Just wanted to share how much we enjoyed DJing here two weeks ago. It’s easily one of the nicest venues we’ve played — perfectly set up and the team make you feel really looked after. Thanks for having us! Steven and Richard, Picknmixx DJ

Fabulous 3 night stay . All staff were excellent especially Sam on the bar . Wedding aniversary and their card and complimentory drink was a nice touch. Great location as well, the pool area was nice and very well kept. Nothing at all was amiss. Delfinitely worth a visit we will be going back for sure.

Just a quick visit for coffee this morning to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary. We had our wedding reception here on 29 May 1976 so it was wonderful to be welcomed so warmly by the duty staff. Thanks so much! The hotel is still the beautiful country escape location for a wedding and we can’t recommend the homely atmosphere enough. Best coffee and croissants we have ever had.

Lovely hotel with even lovelier staff. Rooms were well supplied with tea and coffee. My only criticism was the menu, a bit lacking on choice, but we did have a stunning pizza, do try one! There are a couple of pubs within 5 minutes walk if you want something else to eat. We also had an afternoon tea in our deal, very nice!
