About Passage House Hotel
Passage House Hotel is a purpose-built hotel set above the Teign estuary on Hackney Lane, just outside Newton Abbot, with an unfussy, functional design that makes the most of its waterside position. The estuary views are the property's strongest card, giving many rooms and communal areas an outlook over the water that guests consistently single out as the highlight of a stay.
Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms and are supplemented by a lift, accessible options and a bridal suite for those marrying at the hotel's own wedding venue. It's worth noting that some rooms are showing their age and could do with more careful upkeep, so this is a better fit for guests after a good outlook and solid facilities than for those wanting a fresh, boutique finish. On site there's a restaurant and bar, an indoor swimming pool, gym, and spa or sauna, plus a garden and picnic area, with breakfast, packed lunches and in-room drinks available and laundry and luggage storage laid on.
Food and service are consistently mentioned as strengths, with friendly staff and a kitchen that keeps guests happy. Dartmouth Golf and Country Club is a nearby point of interest, and the wider area offers fishing, horse riding, watersports and further restaurants and pubs, alongside entertainment nearby for those wanting more than the estuary view.
What guests say
Alovely scenic venue with great views of the estuary. My only comment was that we had booked for dinner bed and breakfast. We had been asked to prebook a time to have dinner which we did for 7.15 pm and this was confirmed. Service was quite slow and when we asked to make our order we were informed that no food was served until 8pm. The young server did her best to put our order through as soon as possible but it seems globe a somewhat problematicbreakdown of communication somewhere?!.

I can totally recommend Passage House Hotel following a function I had arranged for about 35 people. The staff were friendly and helpful in making the arrangements and were great on the day ensuring all went smoothly. Their revamp of the hotel bar and function room we used with its amazing views of the estuary was just perfect.

Hotel was clean but basic with rooms in need of renovation. Our bed and the floor both creaked. The room lighting was stark - just bright overhead lights with no lamps or dimmer switches.

Nice hotel in a pleasant location, in need of an update (Looked like it was ongoing), the food was average, the dining room was early quite considering the number of rooms, found it strange checking into the hotel but staying in a different building. The rooms are in need of an update, beds were very uncomfy, the room was clean and tidy.

Guests consistently praise this hotel for its scenic estuary views, good food, and excellent service delivered by friendly staff.
Other reviews mention the rooms can be worn and poorly maintained.
