The Back House

North Ayrshire

View on Google Maps

The Back House is a traditional stone cottage tucked behind one of Catacol's famous Twelve Apostles, on the Isle of Arran's northwestern coast. A single bedroom sleeps two, with a ground-floor living space that centres on a woodburner, kitchen equipped for proper cooking, and a shower room. Bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and heating are included; there's an enclosed garden at the back with seating, and parking on the road outside.

The cottage sits moments from the beach and at the foot of Glen Catacol, making it a natural base for walking. Routes fan out directly from the door—up the glen past waterfalls towards Loch Tanna, or along the coast towards Lochranza Distillery. The Postman's Walk offers hill views over the island. Regular sightings of red deer, golden eagles, red squirrels, seals and otters are common; the wider area is now a UNESCO Global Geopark. Lochranza village, with the distillery, golf course and cafés, is walkable, and the bus stops nearby.

No smoking inside. One well-behaved pet is welcome. The property suits couples and small groups wanting mountain and coastal scenery without needing multiple rooms or leaving their location to explore.
