West Down Farmhouse
North Devon
North Devon's countryside around Woolacombe offers a particular kind of quiet. West Down Farmhouse sits within 21 acres of its own grounds, where a pond and stream wind through gardens and lawns descend across south-facing slopes. The village pub lies within a mile. Exmoor National Park, Lee Bay and Croyde are all within reach by car, and the beach at Woolacombe takes about 15 minutes to drive to.
The farmhouse dates from the 17th century and remains Grade II listed, with low beams, wooden floors and fireplaces throughout. It has been updated to work as a modern home—the kitchen has a substantial range cooker, dishwasher and all the usual appliances, and there is wifi. Four bedrooms and one bathroom occupy the first floor: the master has a super-king bed and an en-suite shower room with walk-in shower, two rooms have king beds each, and one has twin beds. The family bathroom contains a roll-top bath, separate shower cubicle and basin. Downstairs, a large sitting room and oak-panelled drawing room give space for a group to spread out, and a stone terrace overlooks the lawned garden. Parking for several cars sits adjacent to the house. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included; one dog is welcome free of charge, but smoking is not permitted.
