You arrive at a converted barn on the owner's grounds near Matlock, with the entrance up a few steps. The ground floor holds the kitchen and dining space, fitted with an electric oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher and washer-dryer. Upstairs, the living room opens onto a multi-fuel burner and Freeview TV. Bedroom 1 has a double bed with an ensuite shower and toilet; Bedroom 2 contains two single beds and its own ensuite. The property sleeps four, though note there are steep stairs within.

An enclosed garden with sitting furniture and bike storage occupy the grounds, with parking for two cars on site. Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are all included; initial logs for the burner are provided, with more available through an honesty box. The location suits walkers—countryside and footpaths begin at the door—and those visiting the Peak District. Castleton's show caves, Carsington Water, Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are all within reach. A shop and pub stand a mile away. One dog is welcome; smoking is not.

Stumbled across this pub by accident, hidden in the heart of the country off the beaten track. Well it was worth it. We enjoyed Pizza and Toasties as well as a game of boules. Great drinks selection too. If you in the area it's well worth a visit - a little Gem.

Wasn't too impressed when we entered, it was very quiet and the garden was just gravel and a bit messy. Very friendly staff and fantastic food, really glad we stayed and weren't put off

The most expensive round of drinks we've ever bought!! Nearly £15 for a small bottle of non-alcoholic beer and a double gin and lemonade. RIP OFF!! Not surprised there was no other customers in there. Tatty and run down with a miserable barmaid. AVOID!!
