Maison du Quai

North Norfolk

Photo: Google Maps

Families and groups of friends will find Maison du Quai works well for a week or weekend away. The three bedrooms—two with super king beds, one with singles—are spread across the upper two floors, while the main living space occupies the first floor with a wood-burning stove and views across the salt marshes. A ground-floor kitchen and dining room open onto a private courtyard garden with patio seating. Two bathrooms mean less jostling over mornings.

The village location is the real draw. You're 110 yards from the coastal path and roughly half a mile from the beach itself. Cley-next-the-Sea has a working windmill, a bistro, independent shops selling local food and books, and galleries dotted along the high street. The North Norfolk Wildlife Trust visitor centre sits within walking distance, with viewing platforms overlooking the salt marshes where migratory birds and breeding species appear throughout the year. This stretch of coast is serious birdwatching country if you're into that; it's equally good for straightforward seaside walks.

Electricity, heating, wi-fi, bed linen and towels are included. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering, with a dishwasher and washer-dryer. Travel cot, highchair and stairgates are available on request. There's a bike store, and unloading at the door before parking in the public car park. Smoking is not permitted inside.
