Whitby's clifftop abbey, harbour and beach are within walking distance along the river path, and the North York Moors rise inland. Chainbridge Cottage sits on the banks of the River Esk in the village of Ruswarp, giving you a quiet base to explore both the coast and the moorland beyond. The heritage steam railway runs past the garden, heading towards Whitby's station.
The cottage has two double bedrooms and two bathrooms—one en-suite to the first bedroom, one separate. Downstairs, a living room with a wood-burning stove and Juliette balcony overlooks the river, and there's a dining room and fully equipped kitchen for self-catering. A sloping garden with seating faces the water; the lane down to the cottage is private and unadopted. You have parking for two cars on site.
Essentials including heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are provided. One pet can stay free of charge. No smoking is permitted indoors. The river runs on the far side of the garden fence, and kingfishers and herons are regular visitors.

Had a wonderful week at Chainbridge Cottage. The cottage was very clean on arrival and we found it to be very comfortable and it had everything we needed but I would recommend taking your own bath towels. The scenery from the cottage was lovely and we enjoyed watching the swans and ducks on the river . and watching out for the trains . The owner was friendly and helpful and left a lovely welcome pack . Thank you for a lovely week , we hope to be back again.

Loved our stay. Steam trains a novelty and on the door step but weren't annoying considering how close they are. Loved watching the jumping fish and the wildlife pass by on the river. Good location. Note that the trains for whitby do not necessarily stop at Ruswarp station but only a 1mile work into Whitby anyway.

This was my grandparents home for many, many years until they passed away, to see it revamped into a beautiful holiday home brings me joy. I spent countless hours of my childhood fishing with my grandad on the edge of the esk, swimming when the summer allowed, and swinging from the handmade swing that used to adorn the oak tree behind the house. Beware though, there was always some spooky goings on, the cellar was a particularly creepy place, with very old steps somehow leading to the living room fireplace, when it was an open chimney. Can safely say, this is a great place to holiday with your children, I certainly spent years of mine enjoying the house and all its surroundings.
