Helwith Cottage

North Yorkshire

The Dales around Helwith offer good walking and wildlife watching, with grouse moor and open access land on the doorstep. Helwith Tea Garden is close by, and Richmond is a market town worth visiting for its castle, Georgian streets and independent shops. The hamlet itself is remote and quiet—this is countryside, not a village with amenities—so you'll want a car or be ready to walk.

Helwith Cottage is a standalone two-bedroom property sleeping four, decorated with a mix of antique and contemporary pieces. Downstairs you'll find a sitting room with Smart TV and woodburner, a separate dining room, and a kitchen equipped for proper cooking—electric oven, dishwasher, coffee machine and washer-dryer all included. A ground-floor toilet and first-floor bathroom with bath and shower provide what two bedrooms need. Both bedrooms have zip-and-link Super King beds that split into singles on request, and upstairs includes an ensuite shower room. Parking for three cars sits on the property, and there's a small gravelled garden with patio seating.

The essentials are covered: electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wifi. Initial fuel for the woodburner is included too. One dog can come free of charge, though between March and July they must stay on a short lead when walking the open moorland to protect nesting birds. No smoking inside. Arrival is after 15:00, departure before 10:00.

If peace and quiet, solitude and a base for great walks or a romantic getaway is your thing, then look no further! This 2 bedroom cottage is a fantastic place to stay. The house is solid and protects from the worst weather and the front is West facing. There's a outdoor picnic table and plenty parking space. The local Helwith Tearoom is literally a 100yds down the road, next to a river. There's also a public footpath in front if the property. The 3 days we were there, we only saw the Helwith tearoom owners once and a couple of random walkers go by. Absolutely stunning panoramic scenery and on a clear, cloudless night, the stars are stunning....and it gets dark really fast, without external lights.....bring a torch! Apart from the house lights, there's nothing.

A remote holiday cottage that is a pleasure to be in. Tremendous views all around you. Nicely updated and a log burner for chilly evenings. Footpaths on your doorstep , walk as much as you want. There is a local farm house tea room we have yet to try but local walkers were calling in. This unspoilt location is a real find. A lot of local history all around you. We cannot take it all in during one stay. We will return.
