Pickering sits on the edge of the North York Moors, making it a proper base for exploring both upland walks and the Yorkshire coast. The village itself has bakeries, independent shops, a pharmacy and post office all within easy reach on foot, plus places to eat scattered through the centre. Lumley Cottage is a two-bedroom stone property right here, sleeping three, with off-street parking and an enclosed gravelled garden to the rear where you can sit out in decent weather.
The ground floor holds a living room with woodburner (initial logs provided), TV and Sky, and a kitchen-diner equipped with a range cooker, dishwasher and American-style fridge. Upstairs are two bedrooms: one with a king bed and the other a double, both with their own TVs. The single bathroom has a bath and separate shower cubicle. Gas heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are covered. One well-behaved pet stays free of charge.
The cottage suits couples, small families or friends wanting their own place without the fuss of a big house. The Moors themselves are a short drive away if you want hills and open moorland, while the coast at places like Whitby is within an hour's journey. Smoking is not permitted inside.

Fantastic cottage a In the beautiful and picturesque village of Thornton Le Dale. Cosy and homely cottage, deceptively large with everything you need 2 double bedrooms, large kitchen dinner and utility room with loo, large bathroom with bath and separate shower. Sky TV. Nice courtyard garden. Garage and parking. Thornton is a lovely village on the edge of the moors and around 30 minutes to the coast and York. 10 minutes to Pickering for the N.Y. steam railway Many amenities in the village Inc 2 pubs, bakers, 2 tea rooms, chemist, convenience store, post office, restaurants etc and all less than 5 minutes walk away. Nice park with pond and streams going through the village. Can't recommend this cottage or the area enough. Looking for a relaxing and peaceful break within a lovely area with so much to explore.
