Consett sits on the edge of North Yorkshire's coastal hinterland, where woodland, farmland and the sea meet within a short drive. Wood View is a single-bedroom lodge on the Newlands Lodges site, set back among trees with views across the paddock opposite. The whole place is yours alone, with parking for two cars and an electric vehicle charging point on site.
Inside, everything is ground-floor accessible. The open-plan living space combines a sitting area with a sofa bed, dining table and kitchen equipped to cook proper meals rather than make do. The bedroom has a double bed; the shower room is separate. Electricity, Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels are included. The decked area outside has a picnic bench. If you have a dog, it stays free, and there's an enclosed paddock to use. Smoking is not permitted inside.
The location suits anyone seeking quiet woodland and easy reach of the coast. Hayburn Wyke's twin waterfalls and pebbled beach are under 2km away on foot. The Cleveland Way coastal path and a restored railway cinder track (over 20 miles of it) are walkable from the lodge. Ravenscar, Robin Hood's Bay and Scarborough are all within 10 minutes' drive. The area sits within one of only 19 Dark Sky Reserves in England.

We recently stayed at Newlands Lodge in the Blackthorn Lodge and had a really lovely experience. The lodges are stunning and aesthetically pleasing, set in beautiful, well-maintained surroundings that make for a peaceful and relaxing getaway. The lodge itself is beautiful and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Inside, it’s very modern and well presented. The kitchen is particularly well equipped, with essentials like oil, tea, sugar, salt and pepper, as well as extras such as tin foil, which was a great touch. There are just a couple of small areas for improvement – the mattress was a little too soft and lumpy for our preference, and the WiFi could be a bit intermittent at times. Overall, we would rate this a 4-star stay, but with a few small improvements it would easily be 5-star. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning.

Me and my boyfriend were celebrating 4 years in the BlackThorn Lodge and it was amazing, completely secluded with unreal views, the weather was gorgeous we spent all of our days in the hot tub, sauna and lying on the sun loungers, everything was perfect! I would just make sure to check all the cupboards though as I went and bought some fly and wasp spray only to realise there was some in one of the cupboards. Also I’m not sure if the hot tub had been cleaned as it was floating with flies and bugs but we cleaned it out and it was perfect to use regardless! We had the best time and will definitely be back!

Incredible stay here for my partners birthday. We visited local pubs and Newcastle for the day as not too far of a drive. The lodge itself was super clean and just beautiful. The space is so peaceful and we certainly never got bored. All facilities were immaculate and the beds were extra comfy! Couldn’t fault the place at all and definitely hope to return

We had a lovely week away with our 2 dogs. The lodge was amazing, it was clean, had everything we needed and the dogs loved the woodland walks on our doorstep. We were also within easy travelling distance of lots of lovely places to visit, walk and eat food. The host (Katie) was very accommodating and helpful, she was able to recommend a florist and a company to decorate the lodge for the special occasion, my partner’s 60th birthday. We slept well as it was so peaceful and the bed was comfortable. We were worried, as we’d read reviews about the beds being uncomfortable, but we noted the mattress was very new. We enjoyed using the sauna and hot tub and used them everyday. We look forward to booking up again.
