The Ropery

North Yorkshire

View on Google Maps

Groups of up to six find plenty of space at The Ropery, a three-storey house on Whitby's East Cliff. The property works equally well for families, friends gathering for a break, or couples wanting an indulgent retreat. Three bedrooms spread across two floors—a king on the first, two singles also on the first, and a double on the third—each have either an ensuite or access to the main bathroom. That bathroom includes a corner bath with shower and heated towel rail. The living and dining room occupies the second floor with a 55-inch smart TV, and a separate kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, complete with dishwasher and washing machine.

What sets The Ropery apart is the wellness side: a private hot tub overlooks the river and estuary, and there are two steam saunas for guests to use. The enclosed garden has sitting-out furniture and a barbecue. Parking is available for one car. Essentials like electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included; heating and hot water are covered too. Note that there is a sloping bank in the garden, and an external entrance serves the second floor. No smoking is permitted indoors.

Whitby itself is a working fishing port with centuries of history—Whitby Abbey features in Bram Stoker's Dracula, and the Goth Festival runs twice yearly. Local beaches, shops and restaurants are minutes away on foot.
