Families and groups of six will find Tranmire Cottage works well as a base for exploring the moors and nearby coast. The whole property is yours alone, with three bedrooms spread over two floors: a king and en-suite on the first floor, a double, and a twin on the second, plus a separate family bathroom. The ground floor has a living room with an open fire, a kitchen equipped for proper cooking, and a dining space—essentials like heating, Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels are all included, plus one dog stays free.

Built of stone with character from centuries of use, the cottage has wooden beams, fireplaces and window seats that give it authentic country feel. The master bedroom's freestanding roll-top bath with shower makes a genuine difference to comfort after a day outdoors. Lastingham village itself centres on a pub that draws both locals and visitors, and is surrounded by walking routes; Hutton-le-Hole is within reach on foot. Market towns like Helmsley and Pickering lie nearby, and the North Yorkshire Steam Railway runs from Pickering towards Whitby. The Moors National Park is on your doorstep. Smoking is not permitted inside.

Hi, thought you would like to know that my lovely Mam , who has now passed away, was evacuated to Tranmire cottage during the 2nd world war. She stayed there for 4 years. Mr and Mrs Day owmed it at the time, they were quite elderly and had a son who had left to go to Canada with the airforce. She had a lovely time while she was there, made friends with the local kids and the other evacues. They first had to trek to school in the snow to Appleby Moor, before they let them use the village hall in Lastingham as a classroom. Lastingham grange was then not a hotel but owned by an elderly lady. There was a girl who was about 18 at the time called Annie Ellerca(not sure i have spelt that correctly) who used to clean the house for her. She would walk my mam over the fields to meet her Dad who would get the train from Middlesbrough to come to visit her periodically. My mam was about 6 years old when she was sent there. They all got the train to pickering, they were all sent to The Reading Room, which is now a house at the bottom of the lane and owned by someone. They then waited to see who they were going to be staying with. She knew the Stricklands there and would play at the Farm and help churn the butter. There was a lady who lived in Rose cottage on the green behind the pub who Mrs Day would ask to alter clothes for her. Her cousin Bob pettit was sent to Gillamoor not far away, they would meet up, his parents died during the war and the couple he was staying with adopted him. He was well known their over the years. When mam left and eventually got married and had me and my sister, vwe often went back to Ladtingham for picnics and she would telk us tales about her time there and point out Tranmire where she stayed. We were fortunate to stay their again wiyh her when it was divided in two by the owners before previous ones turned half of it into a guest house. It was lovely for her going back and staying in the bedroom she had as a child. Lovely memories, and Tranmire cottage and Lastingham will always be special to us. Jane Allen
