Cairn Rigg
Northumberland
Rothbury is a working market town in the heart of Coquetdale, surrounded by hills and river walks that draw people back year after year. Cairn Rigg sits just off the centre, elevated enough to feel separate but close enough that the pubs and shops are a ten-minute walk away. It's a detached bungalow on a single level, making it straightforward to move around, and all at ground floor with parking for one car on site.
Inside, an open-plan living and dining area gives onto a kitchen equipped for proper cooking: electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge-freezer and washing machine. The two bedrooms are a double and a single; there's one shower room. Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are covered. One well-behaved pet stays free. The back of the property is where you'll spend time in good weather—a tiered garden with seating areas and a terrace, enclosed so there's privacy and safety. Note there are steps within the garden itself.
Cragside, the National Trust house, is within walking distance. So are the river and stepping stones for a gentle afternoon out, or the Simonside Hills if you're after a longer trek. Rothbury makes a base for exploring the wider countryside by foot, bike or car, and the town itself has enough character—independent shops, several pubs, places to eat—that you needn't leave if you don't want to.
