Pigeon Loft works well for families, couples travelling with friends, or anyone who wants a dog-friendly base near the Northumberland coast. The apartment sits on the first floor of a converted building on Front Street in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, metres from the beach. A flight of stairs leads to a separate toilet, then into an open-plan living area with a smart TV, dining space and kitchen where you can cook properly. The main bedroom has a kingsize bed, freestanding bath and walk-in shower. The second bedroom contains bunk beds – a double on the bottom, single above – with its own bathroom. A third bathroom serves the property as well. The place has period character: exposed beams and high ceilings run through it, and essentials like heating, electricity, linen, towels and wifi are included.

Dogs stay free, though there is no private outdoor space; the beach and network of walking routes nearby mean exercise and fresh air are on your doorstep. Newbiggin-by-the-Sea itself has a long sandy bay and seafront promenade within easy reach of shops and cafés. The surrounding area offers the kind of low-key, traditional seaside atmosphere that works as well for a quiet week as it does for families wanting beach days and coastal walks.
