The Gin Gan Cottage

Northumberland

View on Google Maps

Rural Northumberland offers quiet countryside punctuated by history and coast. The Gin Gan Cottage sits in Ryal, a tiny hamlet just north of Hadrian's Wall, with All Saints Church—a Norman structure—nearby. From here, Corbridge and its pubs lie 9 miles south, Matfen village 3 miles away with its own shop and tea room, and the Heritage Coastline around 25 miles north. Bolam Lake is 10 miles distant, and Alnwick Castle 35 miles further, should you want a day out to somewhere grander.

The cottage is a converted barn on one floor, ground level throughout. Inside: a living room with a 40" TV and DVD player, a dining room that catches afternoon light, and a kitchen fitted with an electric oven, induction hob, dishwasher and microwave. One bedroom has a kingsize bed, with an ensuite shower and toilet attached. Bed linen, towels, WiFi and electricity are provided. Outside, two sitting areas—one facing the morning sun at the front, another to the side for afternoons—come with garden furniture and lawned space. Parking for two cars is on site, and there's a bike store. No smoking indoors.

The property sleeps two and suits couples seeking a quiet base for exploring the county or attending an event nearby. It's not a luxury retreat but a practical countryside stop with everything needed for a few days away from busier parts of the region.
