The Old Granary dates back five centuries, built from stone salvaged after the dissolution of the monasteries. This detached property stands in the corner of St Cuthbert's Square on Holy Island, where the tidal causeway connects to the mainland. Beamed ceilings made from old herring boat masts are among the quirky features that survive alongside a 2018 refurbishment bringing in modern comforts.
Inside are four bedrooms—two doubles and two singles—and two bathrooms spread across ground and first floors. The living room has a wood burner (initial fuel included), and the kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering. A utility room with washing machine and freezer sits downstairs. The essentials—electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wifi—are covered, and cots or highchairs can be arranged. Parking is on road; a bike store is available. No smoking.
Holy Island itself requires crossing the tidal causeway, which is part of the appeal for those seeking a proper retreat. The whole island is yours to explore: Lindisfarne Castle, the Priory ruins, and the National Nature Reserve with its migrating birds and grey seals. The island has a post office and shop for provisions. Towns and villages on the Heritage Coast—including Berwick-upon-Tweed and Bamburgh—are within 30 minutes' drive. The pub is within a mile.

We stayed for two nights back in June. Excellent accommodation and lots of tasty breakfast options. Shelley and Kevin are both excellent hosts and were very friendly. We would definitely stay again and would highly recommend.

Only stayed for 1 night but would definitely stay again! Really lovely room, beautifully decorated, spacious & a very comfortable bed. Large shower room too. Spotlessly clean. Breakfast was delicious. Thank you Shelly.

A perfect BnB! I was meant to stay in the Schooner hotel across the road but had to leave. Shelly took me in at the old Granary and was the perfect hostess. Breakfast amazing, tip top cleanliness and good bed. I could even borrow the dog for a walk. I look forward to returning! Thank you Shelly!
