About Belvoir Waters

Tucked into 232 acres of Nottinghamshire countryside, Belvoir Waters is a wild, off-grid retreat where three lakes shimmer across 80 acres and woodland walks reveal over 180 bird species. This is proper back-to-basics camping – you'll need to bring everything, including a portable loo – but the peace and scenery more than compensate. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, and campfires crackle under the stars.

The site feels genuinely remote, yet Newark-on-Trent is only ten minutes away for supplies or a Friday-night chippy. Time your visit for Wednesday and you can explore the town's ancient market, trading since the 12th century, where stalls overflow with fresh local produce. It's a tiny site (just a handful of pitches), so book ahead if you're after this rare blend of wild lakeside camping and easy access to civilisation.

First off... if you turn up here, there is no reception, just a closed gate. You need to call the phone number to be directed to the actual entrance. Every site has pros and cons. Let me mention the cons first: For £30 a night, you get NO services apart from a portaloo (be it the cleanest I've ever seen) No mains water. No showers. No rubbish/recycling bins. The pros: Due to the above, you get to enjoy lovely lakes with very few other campers. Verdict: We came for one night, stayed two. If it wasn't for the noisy roadworks going on and if the price reflected the lack of utilities (at least a fresh water tap) we would have stayed longer. Less then 10 min away you get a quiet campsite with a shower/toilet block, refuse bins and fresh water for under £25/night. I admire the owners tho. If people are willing to pay £30/night for nothing but the scenery, who can blame them? All the best to you. We are likely to visit again :-)

Beautiful location! Had the whole lake to ourselves pretty much for the 2 nights we stayed in our campervan. The only downside was that there were works going on in a field next to the lake which meant it wasn't as quiet as we had hoped. Its wild camping as described, so do be aware that their are no facilities available apart from 1 portaloo. Which I must say, was one of the cleanest portaloos I had ever visited. We very much enjoyed our couple nights! I would say that it is a little pricey since there is a lack of facilities but to be alone mid August..... Was worth it!

You cant beat tenting next to a lake, there are woodland pitches and lakeside pitches we got the best of both

Had a fantastic (short) stay at Belvoir Waters. Quiet, picturesque and the woodland pitchs had a nice private feel even with the other campers dotted about. The track access is not ideal for cars with some deep ruts and mud, but that's part of the charm, as it is rough camping! I would strongly suggest taking a large water container, your own toilet roll and some additional logs to burn.
