About Crazy Bear Stadhampton

Copper baths feature in some of the rooms at Crazy Bear Stadhampton, setting the tone for a hotel that favours distinctive, individual decor over anything predictable. With just 16 rooms, this is an adults-only retreat on Bear Lane near Oxford, mixing countryside surroundings with an interior that leans firmly towards the theatrical and the luxurious.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, room service and drinks provided, and each is decorated in its own quirky style rather than following a house template. Guests can expect a memorable rather than uniform stay, though the rooms sit at the higher end of the price scale for the area. On site, there's a Thai restaurant known for food that's both well-made and nicely presented, alongside a bar, breakfast service, a garden, a spa and sauna, and free WiFi throughout.

Staff are attentive and the atmosphere is consistently described as characterful rather than corporate. Free on-site parking is available, and the surrounding area offers a golf course, fishing, pubs, restaurants and entertainment nearby, making it easy to combine a stay with a wider visit to Oxford and Oxfordshire.

After having stayed at Beaconsfield a number of times we finally had the opportunity to stay at Stadhampton. Stadhampton is much older than Beaconsfields and therefore does have a quirky, aged feel which is upbeat and well cared for. The reception bus is fun and welcoming and the grounds itself are gorgeous (in fact I’d love to come back in the Summer and enjoy a cocktail by the fire for an evening). The decadent rooms are worth it, we stayed in 12 and it was stunning, the lighting was atmospheric but still apt for makeup and photos, the copper bathtub in the centre ran hot and was so relaxing! The velvet decor is kept so well considering the amount of footfall it sees. The windows are showing their age a little and need a gentle hand but not an issue. We attended the 12 course Thai menu for dinner and what a revelation of flavour. I see in comparison to the previous English menu why this won awards. It’s simply divine. Tasty, beautifully presented and prompt. A masterpiece! Finally, the staff. The staff attitude and helpfulness is second to none. There was a couple whom had a ‘drama’ which ended in an ambulance being called and the staff were attentive, compassionate and calm around us. I think it speaks volumes in the face of unexpected adversity to the quality of the manner in which it is handled. Breakfast is always very calm it seems, a pace slower in the morning in comparison to the pub in the evening, so only unless you are in a rush to leave would you find issue. All in all, I can’t wait to come again and enjoy the special experience that is, Crazy Bear!

First off, signage for car park is pretty poor so had to drive a bit to find the correct parking but once we got parked we were met with an impressive entrance and then finding the reception was inside a double decker bus was wild! Two English speaking staff on the desk were helpful at checking us in using pre paid vouchers. Then guided to our cottage which was a converted house into separate rooms (bit disappointed it was a 5 minute walk from the main building/bar). The room itself was very well maintained and dressed however we were not expecting the toilet to be part of the open bathroom!! As couples this was too close for comfort (others might be ok with it) so that was a funny problem to face. Bed was absolute amazing, extremely clean and comfy, resulting in the best night sleep after a shared bath. The bath unfortunately did not function with the jets for a jacuzzi style which was explained to us on arrival but it was big enough to fit two grown adults in with the ceiling fill being an interesting twist. The walk in shower was also a very high standard accompanied with crazy bear gowns and towels. Food wise was excellent, highly recommend the 12 plate Thai menu which was extremely tasty and great value for money. The service was at a great standard, friendly caring and food service was rapid. I can gladly say it was the best Thai we have had and the couple behind us also echoed our thoughts. Bar service was also at the same standards, Rambo (the Barman) was kind, friendly and knew his cocktails. Breakfast unfortunately was a bit of a disappointment as the service was slightly slower that the night before with an expensive menu for what you get. This was the only negative aspect of our stay but Would definitely stay again, especially in the warming weather as the outside tables looked beautifully lit in the evenings.

Loved the quirky Boujee room we had, beautiful bath but not the copper bath as advertised and our room door kept banging and cold draft came through. The Thai restaurant was shocking, we were in and out in exactly one hour. They served 12 courses but left no space between them and would hardly them call them courses more like 12 dish menu. I'm not one to complain but felt the quality was poor also!

I had a really unique experience at Crazy Bear Stadhampton. The place stands out immediately because of its bold, luxurious, and slightly eccentric design—it’s not your typical hotel or restaurant. The atmosphere feels very special, perfect for a romantic getaway or a celebration. The surroundings are beautiful, set in the countryside, and the whole venue has a very stylish, almost cinematic vibe with fairy lights, gardens, and cozy spaces. The food, especially the Thai dishes, is full of flavor and definitely one of the highlights. What I liked most is that it offers a full experience, not just a place to stay—there’s great food, drinks, and a vibrant atmosphere that makes it memorable. The rooms are very distinctive and luxurious in style, with features like unique décor and standout elements such as copper baths. However, it’s worth mentioning that it can be quite expensive, and some people feel the value doesn’t always match the price. Overall, it’s a stylish and unusual place that’s perfect if you’re looking for something different and memorable rather than just a standard hotel stay.
