A traditional pub-hotel on Oxford's Old High Street, offering en-suite rooms above a bar known for hearty food and free parking.

About The Black Boy

Oxford's Old High Street sets the scene for The Black Boy, a pub-hotel that pairs old-fashioned character with straightforward comfort. Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, and the building's historic bones give the place a warm, lived-in atmosphere rather than a corporate one.

Downstairs, the restaurant and bar serve breakfast and pub food, including options for children, and there's a garden for sitting outside when the weather allows. Drinks can be brought to the room, and reception is staffed around the clock. Free WiFi is available throughout, and free on-site parking is a genuine convenience in a city where that's often hard to come by. Service can slow down at busy times, but the staff are consistently helpful and the prices are reasonable for the location.

The surrounding area has plenty to keep guests occupied, with other pubs, restaurants and entertainment nearby, along with a golf course and cycling routes for anyone wanting to get outdoors. It makes a practical base for exploring Oxford on foot, with everything from the room to the front door within easy reach.

Enjoyed a two night stay at the Black Boy Inn while visiting Oxford. We enjoyed staying in a quiet neighborhood which felt far from the busyness of Oxford but was a very close drive into city center. The rooms were very comfortable, not too small for two people and the bed was very comfy. The food was excellent; we had a full English breakfast (not included in the price of the rooms) and a dinner one night. Everyone's dishes were wonderful! The staff were very friendly and helpful during our stay. We were lucky to get parking in front of the Inn both days as parking is very limited FYI. We would definitely recommend staying here; enjoyed everything about it!

We only went in for drinks, but the staff were amazing! Had a lovely experience. Normally I wouldn't be arsed to write a review for a pub! But Neil and Amalie were a delight. After a well informed discussion about the wine selection, I was very happy with the choice. Was only planning to have one but with great company and good wine, stayed for more! Looking forward to returning!

Lovely quiet location to stay near Oxford- we went to a concert at Blenheim Palace. Rooms very comfortable, very clean all you need. Breakfast was really tasty with great ingredients. Staff very friendly and helpful so will definitely return.

We were three tables and waited 1 hour and 10 minutes for our food, which is completely unacceptable. The steak came with barely any mushrooms and was nothing like before. We’ve been here in the past and it used to be much better, but this time everything went wrong. The food was not cooked as requested, especially shocking considering the price (£27 for a steak). The staff clearly had no idea what they were doing. The manager was extremely unhelpful, showed no care at all, and did nothing to fix the situation. She didn’t support her staff or take any responsibility, which made things even worse. No one came to check on us, offer drinks, or even apologise for making us wait over an hour. My children were very upset and frustrated, and honestly I regret bringing them here. Very poor service, poor food, and zero customer care. We will definitely not be coming back
