A traditional Oxford pub-hotel on The Green with a popular curry menu, comfortable beds and free parking, near Blenheim Palace and the city centre.
About The Chequers Inn
The Chequers Inn built its reputation as much on its kitchen as its beds, with a menu that stretches from a well-liked Indian curry to other pub favourites, all served alongside a proper bar and a breakfast to start the day. Kids meals are available too, so families are catered for as easily as couples after a pint and a plate of something hearty.
Rooms are en-suite with drinks provided, and beds have been singled out as a strong point, though it's worth knowing that some rooms have shown signs of wear rather than being freshly kept. Family rooms are available, WiFi is free throughout, and reception operates around the clock. Staff are consistently described as friendly, and free on-site parking is a genuine convenience for a property so close to central Oxford.
Set on The Green in Oxford, the inn puts guests within reach of both the city centre and Blenheim Palace, with a pub, restaurants and other eateries close by for anyone who fancies a change of scene. Golf and fishing are available nearby too, and pets are welcome, making this a practical base for exploring Oxfordshire without fuss.

What guests say
Floor boards in room extremely Creeky, room otherwise ok. Paid for Breakfast. First morning came down at 8:58am and we were told we were too late. Not even a piece of toast offered as apparently she had 6 rooms to clean. We thought it was until 10am breakfast. Second morning came down for breakfast and was offered 2 options: either a full English or eggs on toast. After 5 minutes and no smell of breakfast cooking we heard the ding on the microwave. But it was edible. Lady could of been a lot more accommodating, a piece of toast offered or a cup of tea or money back would of been kind / respectful.

This place doesn't look at all like it does on the Internet, in fact, it's the other way around. Our very room has a very bad smell that we couldn't get out, we booked a room for 5 days but left after 2 days because it was impossible to sleep there. The room is very. Scarlet, although we were told that this is the largest room. We called in advance to ask for shampoos, towels, and more. We were told that our room would have a bathroom and a shower room and that we didn't need to bring anything with us to freshen up. In fact, everything turned out to be different, there was only a bathroom in our room and a shower inside this bathroom, which is not at all what we were promised. Shampoo and soap were missing, only quite a bit of bodywash looks like some one left in this room. 2 large towels and a small, very thin towel for milking hands. At 6pm we went downstairs to have dinner, and there I tried to talk to the Asian woman who had placed us and tried to explain that there were no towels in our room for face milking and hair drying after shampooing, to which she said that when people live in the countryside they do not use such a large number of towels, she read to me with a very aggressive face a whole lecture about wanting too much. This aggression shocked us, we decided not to argue, and the next day we found a store and bought everything we needed. The next shock we got was when we ordered dinner, which was brought to us on a tray with separate compartments for different food, exactly the kind used by prisoners in prison. The portions are very small, the sauce is just smeared all over the compartment, but the most important thing is that this food turned out to be completely inedible. I asked for a cabbage salad, but the Indian serving us said that this salad was only milking those who eat cury, I didn't even have time to say anything, he left and brought me a green salad, but it wasn't fresh and I didn't eat anything, the person serving us didn't even ask why I didn't eat and brought us a large the bill with a displeased face, he saw that we both left without eating this dinner, but he was not interested. The next morning we went down for breakfast, which was included, but the breakfast was not edible either. The mentors of this establishment are an Indian couple who have no idea about hospitality, both are very rude, not polite, and the people they serve.

Visited for dinner, very strange atmosphere, nothing like a local pub. The curry was tasty but served on a school cafeteria tray. Would not recommend.

my wife and and I booked a break near Oxford ,as this was my old College. I wanted to see the place after many years so this looked a good place to stay for a week On arrival we were greeted by an Asian person who gave me the impression I was a thief, we told him where we had come from and that we had booked two adults and two very good dachshunds In for 5 days . Before we could open our mouths. He was very rude and said you have to pay up front and it’s ( cash only) Before you go to room, my wife commented “that she had cash in the suitcases and we shall go to the room and take it to pay you. But he refused and said he wanted paying now immediately So my wife had to remove all her cloths from the suitcase on to the counter in-front of the public.( HOW EMBARRASSING AND INSULTING) He said people in England do not pay. No, you’re not going to the room before paying for dogs as people run away and do not pay I commented thats not a problem, why do you perceive we are criminals? He Said people in England do not pay,,, NO ! your not going to room before paying for dogs as people run away and do not pay. We arrive late,I found we only had one hand towel in the bathroom between both of us, My told the desk this and ( very aggressively said that “why do you need two? You’re in the country now no body uses two towels ,and said she has run this place for 9 years and knows you are a couple and can share the towels between us ). We decided to have dinner and not to argue about towels and go for a walk The The dinner arrived on a metal present tray where it’s one large tray which is stamped out in sections where each section has a particular food for example one section had the Curry sauce section had the chutney another section had the rice. Another section had something else and something else very small amounts of food hardly anything other than to say it was only fit for a starter. Eg the frozen curry you can buy in aldi for £3 which is a full meal was three times larger My wife ordered a salad with a meal it was very mega few leaves so she was forced to order an extra salad which arrived in a small dish and they charge £8 for unbelievable just be careful while you’re there you’ll get ripped off that’s for sure.. In the morning we went down for breakfast. This was another surprise. We both got a piece of toast dry thin toast very thin bread and old texture.. We given the small sample of butter each which was not enough for each bread, so we eaten half of it. The plate was half full it was completely embarrassment as an English full breakfast then my wife ordered her breakfast scrambled egg it came and it was white just the white of the egg. There was no yolk there whatsoever if there was it was a very pale Ole yo we didn’t see it. It was absolutely disgusting, not eatable so we waited till we went outside to a proper place where we could eat something Edible . The breakfasts given was NOT eatable My wife happens to have asthma ,,we asked for some warm water. It seemed to be a problem. The (big sigh).the man disappeared into the kitchen never came back with the water so 10 mins later I had to go and ask for water, he never came back to apologise How is this for a rip off I pint of Guinness say was £6.00 Half pint. £4 If this is not a rip
