About The Talkhouse

Wheatley Road runs into Oxford's edge, and The Talkhouse sits along it as a pub-with-rooms rather than a conventional hotel, with just four bedrooms above a bar known locally for its open fires and easy-going atmosphere. It makes a good base for exploring the city while keeping some distance from the centre, with a garden and outdoor seating for quieter moments.

Each room comes with an en-suite bathroom, and the pub serves breakfast alongside a full restaurant menu that includes gluten-free options and a kids' menu. The bar is well stocked, drinks can be brought to your room, and free WiFi is available throughout. Food here draws praise for its hearty pub classics and good beer, though some dishes have occasionally come out overcooked, so it's worth ordering something simple if you want to be safe.

Staff are consistently described as friendly and welcoming, and the practical extras help too: free on-site parking, space for motorhomes, and pets are allowed. There's a golf course, other pubs and restaurants, and entertainment nearby, making it a workable stop whether you're passing through Oxfordshire or staying to explore Oxford itself.

We visited last week bank holiday. No food No cocktails ( that are on their wine list online) just 3 cheap bog standard spritz. Sticky tables Cold as the back door was wide open Such a shame completely different to our previous visits

We stayed up in the Cotswolds all week and stopped by The Talk House before flying home. The Talk House was the best place we stayed! So cute, food was amazing and the staff (Isla, Candace and Amy) were super fun to hang and chat with.

Good service. Delicious food. We stayed over in our motorhome as the pub is part of the Britstop network. We enjoyed the country location. The sound of the birdsong and the beautiful countryside. Highly recommended.
