About The Pilsley Inn

The Pilsley Inn, known for years as The Devonshire Arms at Pilsley, sits in one of the estate villages on the Chatsworth land near Bakewell. It is owned and run by the Chatsworth Estate as part of its small collection of places to stay, and was renamed after a refurbishment. The building is stone-built and low-ceilinged, and it still works as the village pub as well as an inn.

Accommodation runs to 13 individually decorated bedrooms, all en suite, in categories from cosy doubles up to farmhouse and family rooms. The style is country without being fussy: painted panelling, estate fabrics, decent beds and modern bathrooms. Some rooms are in the main inn and others in an adjoining building, and a few can take a third bed or a cot for families. Free wifi and free parking are included.

Downstairs, the bar pours locally brewed ales and a short wine list, and the restaurant serves pub cooking built around beef, lamb and game from the estate along with produce from the Chatsworth farm shop, which is a two-minute walk up the lane. Sunday lunch is busy and worth booking. There is a small outdoor seating area at the front that catches the afternoon sun.

Chatsworth House and garden are about 1.7 miles away, reachable on foot through the park, and Bakewell is three miles south. Haddon Hall, the Monsal Trail and the eastern gritstone edges are all short drives. The inn suits people who want to be on the estate without the price of the bigger hotels, walkers who like finishing at a bar with a fire, and families visiting Chatsworth for a couple of days.

We had a wonderful 5-night stay at The Pilsley Inn, staying in the farmhouse—and it couldn’t have been better. The room was lovely, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. From the moment we arrived, we received a warm welcome, and every member of staff we encountered was incredibly friendly, helpful, and attentive. The food was absolutely fantastic throughout our stay. The pie was a real highlight—honestly one of the best we’ve had—and the Sunday roast was on another level entirely. One of the standout parts of our trip was a beautiful walk from the inn to Chatsworth House. The staff were so helpful in arranging everything for us, even booking our tickets, which made the experience completely stress-free. We also loved having Chatsworth Farm Shop just a short stroll away—only a few hundred yards—and their scones are absolutely amazing. Overall, a fantastic stay in a perfect location. We wouldn’t hesitate to return!

We had such a lovely meal at The Pilsley Inn last night. The beef rump was absolutely amazing and we both really enjoyed it. I also wanted to give a special mention to Claire, who was just fantastic - she made our evening feel extra special and went above and beyond to look after us! She really is the star of the place! ⭐️ Thank you for a gorgeous meal and a lovely night, we will definitely be returning!

We visited with our dog. Lovely table near the wood burner. The food was very good. The pub had a good atmosphere but your could still have a conversation. The poached rhubarb was my standout moment. Plus a few pints of landlord. Highly recommend.

Comfy, warm, well-serviced, dog-friendly room, Ballcross. Though at 6’2” and not prepared to use the bed’s steps, even I had to hop up onto the highest bed I’ve encountered. However it is handy to store the ironing board underneath. Bar and restaurant staff were friendly, attentive, quick and efficient. Breakfasts and dinners were tasty and well presented. Thank you all for an enjoyable, fun stay for myself, my wife, our friends and Tinker the spaniel.
