About Underleigh House
Underleigh House is a converted cottage and barn dating from 1873, set up Lose Hill Lane on the edge of Hope. It has a Visit England five-star gold award and a Rose Award, took gold in the Peak District and Derbyshire Tourism Awards for bed and breakfast of the year, and has appeared in the Good Hotel Guide. It is small, owner-run and firmly a bed and breakfast rather than a hotel.
There are four guest suites: the Thornhill, the Derwent, Aston and the Townhead Garden Suite. All are en suite, and three come with their own private sitting rooms, which makes them unusually roomy for a B&B. Decor is country house in style, comfortable rather than showy, with valley views from most windows. Guests also have use of a lounge with a log fire and a garden looking towards Win Hill.
Breakfast is served in a flagstoned dining hall around a long table and is the thing most guests write about afterwards: local bacon and sausage, eggs from nearby, home-baked bread and preserves, and a wide choice of alternatives to the full cooked plate. Packed lunches can be arranged for walkers, and there is space to dry boots and store bikes. There is no evening meal, but the pubs in Hope are a short walk down the lane.
The setting is what brings most people. The path onto Lose Hill and the Great Ridge starts almost at the door, Castleton and its caverns are a couple of miles west, and Edale, Kinder Scout and the start of the Pennine Way are close. Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Eyam and Bakewell are all within easy driving distance, and Hope station is walkable. It suits walking couples and anyone wanting a personal, quiet stay in the middle of the national park.

We had a wonderful stay at Underleigh House. Vivienne is very welcoming and a very pleasant person to chat with. Her breakfasts are delicious, with plenty of choice, and very generous. The room was huge with a very large and comfortable bed, a big bathroom and even an adjacent private sitting room. The surroundings are beautiful, the house is nested between the hills, in a lovely and quiet place overlooking the lambs. Underleigh House has everything you might expect from an excellent b&b and even more. For us, it was just perfect and we hope we'll have the chance to be back there another time.

Underleigh House was recommended to us by a family member, and it didn’t disappoint. Located on a quiet country lane, the views from the accommodation were beautiful. Despite feeling peaceful and tucked away, there were still amenities within walking distance, and several towns a short drive away. The accommodation itself has great charm, giving you that perfect holiday feel while still offering home comforts. Vivienne, the host, was incredibly welcoming and accommodating, providing helpful recommendations for places to visit and local eateries. A real highlight was the bespoke breakfasts. You can pre order from an extensive menu featuring home cooked dishes and local products. It’s an excellent way to start the day before heading out to explore this stunning part of the country. The accommodation is dog friendly but do note that there is livestock in the surrounding fields and a resident cat, so it’s important to be respectful and mindful if taking pets. We had an amazing stay, a real hidden gem. Highly recommended.

I had a lovely stay at underleigh house, Vivianne was immediately welcoming and warm on my arrival after a long journey offering me tea and cake which was felt homely. The room has an adjoining lounge which was felt much bigger then a normal b&b room. Location for me was perfect for exploring local hills and being able to walk into the village was brilliant. A very quaint and picturesque b&b which will definitely be my regular stop over going forward when visiting the Peaks. Thankyou Vivianne

wonderful spot, Vivienne is a wonderful host and this an ideal location to discover and enjoy the northern part of The Peak District and the Hope valley. We would stay again next visit.
