Camping and pods at the foot of Glentress Forest's biking trails

About Glentress Forest Lodges

Glentress Forest Lodges puts you right at the trailhead of one of Scotland's original 7stanes mountain biking centres, a mile east of Peebles in the Scottish Borders. The site offers grass and hardstanding pitches for tents and motorhomes, heated timber pods, and spacious bell tents, all built around that forest-edge location. Most pitches come with fire-pits, electric hook-up is available, and dogs are welcome throughout—making it a natural choice for riders travelling with vans and four-legged companions.

Facilities are straightforward and activity-focused: heated shower blocks, a communal kitchen with fridges and worktops, a drying room for wet kit, and secure bike storage for a fee. There's no on-site bar or restaurant, so evenings tend to revolve around a fire and recounting the day's riding. Beyond the trails, guests get discounted access to the nearby Go Ape course, and Peebles is close enough for a proper meal or shop. Walkers are equally well served, with forest tracks and hill paths fanning out in all directions. It's a no-frills, outdoor-focused site rather than a resort—best suited to visitors whose holiday centres on getting into Glentress Forest rather than lounging around the pitch.

Had a great stay with the camper-van on this site. Reception staff very helpful and facilities were great for a trip away biking.\n\nGreat access to the trails at Glentress and close to the Handlebar grill for good food and drinks.

Disappointed\n\nWe booked one of the pods from Christmas Eve until Boxing Day.\n\nTHE POD\n\n- The pod itself was as expected 🙂\n- The fridge inside the pod was clean and appeared relatively new 🙂\n- The mattresses were comfortable 🙂\n\nFACILITIES\n\nUnfortunately, the facilities were disappointing 👎\n\nKitchen:\n- The kitchen needs a proper clean. It’s a very small one, so this wouldn’t take long. The dirt & grease didn’t appear to be from previous customers that day — there’s visible build-up in most places that looks like it’s been there a while 😒\n- There was a lack of basic cooking equipment: sharp knives, colanders, fresh sponges (the ones provided were greasy with no spares), enough washing-up liquid, tea towels (none provided), surface cleaner, and pans that weren’t covered in old grease / didn't require a clean before using 😒\n\nThe kitchen felt a bit like a token gesture — included so the site could say it has kitchen facilities, rather than a space set up to be properly used. If the campsite were busy, I’d struggle to see how it would work. That said, the room itself is big enough to be a great communal kitchen if some investment was made. So future potential if management agree... 🤞\n\nShowers / Toilets:\n- Clean (as expected, especially as the site was extremely quiet) 🙂\n- Only two toilets, which wasn’t an issue while the site was quiet, but it does make me wonder how this would cope during busier periods 🤔\n- The biggest disappointment was the showers being cold. The water was lukewarm for the first minute or so, then went cold — not what you want after a winter day on the trails 😒\n\nAfter the first cold shower, I gave it the benefit of the doubt and assumed I’d caught it between heating cycles. The next morning, the taps were producing warm water, so I thought it would be fine — but again, the shower was only lukewarm briefly before going cold.\n\nCONTACTING MANAGEMENT:\nIn fairness to management, I didn’t contact them regarding the showers for a couple of reasons, so they couldn't rectify:\n1. I was already in the shower and wasn’t going to get out and wait around half-showered for someone to come to site.\n2. It was Christmas Day, and I didn’t want to disturb them whilst they would have likely been with family / friends.\n\nOVERALL\nWas the stay worth what we paid? -Personally, I don’t think so and had there been anyone around on check out, I would have been asking for a partial refund. However, with some investment in the kitchen, a better cleaning routine, and the hot water issue resolved, I feel this place has great potential. Would I like to return? - Depends on managements response to this review. However I'm currently steering back towards the local AirBnBs we usually use in Innerleithen and have had great success with in the past.
