About Lawrenny Castle Site

Lazing in hammocks under leafy trees, soaking up views over scenic estuaries and basking in the peace of a secluded spot… Bliss, no? If answers to that are a resounding yes, make your way to Lawrenny Castle Site, a family-friendly site in the Pembrokeshire village of Lawrenny, 20 minutes' drive from Pembroke.

Set on the lawns of a former castle home in a sheltered, private area, this tiny site (just a handful of pitches) feels wonderfully tucked away yet close to adventure. The Pembrokeshire National Park location is perfect for dog-walking families, with lengthy riverbank rambles starting from the site and the National Trust's Cleddau Woodlands a 15-minute stroll away. Kayaks and canoes are encouraged for exploring the Cleddau Estuary, while wild swimming beckons from nearby Lawrenny Quay. Back at camp, hammocks strung between trees invite proper unwinding, massages can be booked, and those spectacular estuary views never tire. When hunger strikes, it's an easy downhill wander to Quayside Café or the Lawrence Arms for daily food.

Great ruin, packed with history. Great for a day visit or just an afternoon. If the weather's fine, a picnic is great. Plenty of tables. Lots to explore. Lovely shop with a wealth of items for all ages. Gorgeous setting. Great views of the river birds. Playground nearby, toilets on site. Disability friendly but there are steps in areas of the ruin, so not all areas accessible. Free parking with short walk from the car park and the mill is also within walking distance. My 3-year-old granddaughter loved it.

Just what a Norman castle should be. Plenty to explore if the castle itself including halls, towers, a chapel and various crypts. There were plenty of information panels around to read which set the scene and told the history of the place effectively. The Mill is a pleasant walk away and is similarly well presented. Tea and cakes were good in the Nest cafe. We spent a bit more than 3 hours here and all very much enjoyed it.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit here, it was out first time. It is a stunning castle 🏰 and the entry was very reasonable in my opinion. You get free entry to the mill on the other side of the river too, but we didn't have time. Would definitely recommend 👌

Lovely wander around carew castle, its not massive but definitely worth a visit and a wander down to the water mill! We had 5 dogs with us, so no problem taking your hounds! They are very dog friendly.
